GTX680 and HD8870X2 have to be afraid of this , right ?

Expect to see PhysX fully implemented in CryEngine3 as Nvidia ( their main sponsor ) has bought PhysX and Nvidia wouldn't want to miss a chance to show off PhysX with a big name developer ( Thats from me, I'm getting so excited at the thought of what CryEngine3 with awesome graphics and kick ass PhysX could do ).

ATI already did an 8000 series. Wouldn't the HD _800 name scheme end at 6870?

3-5 times..... You know, Crytek makes AMAZING graphics. but unfortunately you have to wait 2-3 generations to get hardware that can run the damned things full spec. Perhaps they can properly code it this time, with all of the time that they will have.

because they havent started yet, so not commitment to old technology. They can keep adding new technologies as they keep progressing .

I suppose in such a case waiting would be better.

Waiting is the only thing we can do when it comes to Crytek. They sent so many rigs to hell, its a shame. The 2-generation gap of cards that can fully play their crap is a pain in the ass at the least.

FarCry anyone, you had to wait till the 7800/x1800 to max it at 16x12 with a single card.

Crysis still can't max it with a GTX280 or HD4870 x2 at 1920 and get over 40FPS

It also boasts that it's not only ready for the current generation of hardware - including, for the first time, PS3 & 360 - but the next generation as well, boasting of "scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms".

Sounds neat. Also sounds, knowing Crytek's track record for ridiculously inaccessible graphics settings, entirely plausible.

No pics or demo reels just yet; we'll have to wait until GDC in a couple of weeks for those.

Crysis has already amazing graphics, i wonder how much better they can get. Maybe to the point where you cant tell what is 3D and what is real world ?

Hopefully it'll be developed to work with the hardware in that future. And not for our current hardware. I like pretty games, despite the fact crysis runs like a tank on a 2L engine.

i've read somewhere that it's the software that pushes hardware developers to make cutting edge tech. so knowing Crytek they'll make another software capable of bringing any contemporary rig to its knees.

OMG OMG, CryEngine 4 is going to PWNZORZ CryEngine 3. By 2012 none of this stuff is going to matter. Who knows, the CryEngine could be bought by a resurgent Coleco sometime in the future so mabye we need to prepare ourselves for Colecovision 1337. I just don't see the point to this story at all. Of course things like graphics and the like are going to be more advanced three or four years from now and all of the computers we are currently using are going to struggle with these graphics. And around goes the merry-go-round.

The only problem is this game will be cross platform. It will only be as demanding as its weakest console. I wouldn't expect TO MUCH from this engine. At least not the normal standard from Crytek.

Not true. The graphics could just be toned down for the weaker console (or more difficult to port to). CODWAW was released on ALL of the platforms (including the wii) and each system looked very different.
