Yikes, I hope this isn't true but if it is it doesn't look good.

So, if this is true it's clear this is a DX9 built from the ground up with DX11 added on at some future date. However this should be taken with a grain of salt for now.

I always expected it to be built around DX9. Cryengine 3 is basically an optimized cryengine 2. It's built on DX9 to begin with, redoing it as DX10+ only would have made sense from a pc standpoint but the push for consoles holds it back, as they're DX9.5

Some will argue its because of the PC market that Crytek is doing it.

I don't understand why people always get let down if a game is not built from the ground up on something higher than dx9. Crysis in dx9 looked amazing anyway, still puts systems to their knees(not as much now). Most of the time, a few extra candy features that you set for a games visuals on a PC aren't noticeable.
Let me re-phrase that. If I go through an entire game with an option for lets say "post processing effects" set to high instead of medium and a few other things....it will be nothing but white noise for me(maybe different for some people). Even though it might be a letdown to some, it still doesn't change the fact that it will still look amazing :)

because the whole point of DX10 and 11 was better graphics at the same performance. with this stupid patch mentality, we get very slightly better graphics at massive performance hits.

I also remember after patch 1.2 they stopped patching Crysis (it could have used more work) to work on the next game (Warhead). Warhead didn't get much attention after release, or at least single player didn't as far as patches go. But I think if they are having issues in getting it done in time and are going to release anyway, they would need to drop the price. After playing today and it was an "ok demo", I was not too impressed. I have been a huge crysis fan and always love the single player sandboxing but i might just have to sit this one out.

Haha, I knew it. This is what I was telling a friend yesterday, and he said "if Crysis 2 isn't a DX11 launch, nobody will buy new graphics cards next year".

Since most of the GPU on the market are not DX11, it might alternatively be said that DX11 spec rigs are not necessary to have and will only be patched.

most of the GPU market is DX10, at least according to steam. this is outdated too, so the numbers would be higher.

since DX10 hardware can run DX11 titles (with features like tesselation disabled) it actually makes sense for games to be made in DX10 or 11.

most are DX11 now? NV 400 and up series and the ATi 5xx0 series damn near all of the cards on the market fall into that category.

People need to let their 2003 Dell towers go already; XP is a dead platform.

My brother dual boots 7 and XP because a few apps and a game he plays doesnt support Windows 7 which is bullshit in my opinion. Lazy ass developers.

yeah, which fits what i said. directX 10.

so long as the game runs fine on medium settings at 1080p on a 9800GT with a dual core, they optimised the game well.

clearly, you dont use steam much these days.

you also fail to understand that steam IS a good representation of the gamers market - if the average on steam is a 9800GT, then thats good info.

if you looked elsewhere for that info, all you'd find is that intel makes more graphics cards than anyone else.

That wasn't what Whinetech's stand was when Crysis 1 released. There were far lesser DX10 GPUs than there are DX11 GPUs now. Yet Crysis was DX10 out of the box.

Until there's that DX11 patch, I'm not even going to touch Crysis 2 retail with a barge-pole.

looks like PC gaming is loosing after all.
Basically i see DX10 and DX11 as marketing gimmicks for nvidia and ati to get more money from their cards.

And yeah, developers can be lazy, or just outright greedy.

Ah, looks like the old, long in the tooth Xbox 360 is starting to hamper new games. Being targeted for the old and slow console, with lazy /buggy ports to PC as an afterthought.

If they started making games native 64-bit, with native dx11 we would have much tighter optimized games. Great graphics at very low impact on performance.

Won't be buying Crysis 2 anyway, it looks like Black Ops with nano-suits.

What we need is a new console refresh : PS4 and Xbox 720. That way if they do port games, at least they will (hopefully) be 64 bit and Dx11 or openGL 4.

no, what we need now is BF3, and more developers like DICE.

crytek may have just released their last PC title, they will take the bad sales and blame it on piracy, when in reality it is because they refuse to develop a decent game.

good riddance, we don't need your kind here, Crytek.
