How does the game actually play at those settings?

Yeah, big performance difference between DX9 and 10

Play is smooth as silk! The bechmark looked a little choppy in some places.

Hmm... if I install Crysis on a Win7 64 bit OS, will that run in DX10 mode? I just upgraded my second PC to Win7 and was (coincidentally) going to install it on that.

Yes you should be able to run the bench in DX10 mode as long as your GPU is DX10 too.

Second PC has a 6850, which is DX 11. On Win7, will the game run in DX10, or run in DX 11? I understand that each new DX essentially has all previous DX version functions as a subset.

    Getting a DirectX re-education here...

Ah derp I missed the DX factor.

DX10. It came out before DX11.

I remember seeing somewhere that you can change the DX version in the benchmarking tool but I cannot locate it anymore due to it being alittle old.

It will run in DX10. You might find in Bin, I think, two Cryisis exe one DX10 and one DX9, don't remember exactly. And it also has a 64bit version not that it changes much.

There is the toggle for DX9 and DX10 in his screenshot, but DX10 is greyed out because it is on WinXP.:toast:

Took me a while to find that even after I read what you wrote. Thx.

If everything goes right, I'll be seeing if it's enabled on Win7 tonight ;)

Check in Crysis folders the 64bit executable, I think there is one and just run it.

Hmmm... will check. Wonder if it even gets extracted on a 32-bit OS.

Yeah, the DVD version is a lot easier. Steam doesn't include the 64-bit parts of the game, and you are forced to use the 32-bit executable. Doing what it says in the thread simply replaced the 32-bit executable with the 64-bit but keep the 32-bit name so steam can still launch it.

With the DVD version it is as simple as changing the shortcut to point to the 64-bit executable. Though, as someone already mentioned, the difference is very minimal.

So I've been trying to run the benchmark on Win7 x64.

It doesn't quite work right, the benchmark starts up the game, but it starts from the beginning cut scenes and start of first level, doesn't go through the looped tests.

    Any ideas?

And I have installed the 1.2 patch on the game.

The shortcut on my desktop does indeed point to the x64 executable.
