Back then, it really sounded like Squadron 42 will be just SC ina sandbox with a story. Over time, it has become increasingly more apparent Squadron 42 will become a game on its own. That may be what the lawsuit is about. But I honestly don't care about two companies doing their laundry in public.
I watched the announcement in 2012 and from my perspective he was talking about two separate games. The video is up on YouTube. As far as the legal part, yeah.. Yawn. Just seems like CryTek is in desperation mode and this is obvious from what's been going on with them for the past couple of years.

And again: this is not what I want to read on TPU.

Okay, I guess you shouldn't of responded to me, or be in this thread? Fair enough I guess.

I'm not picking on anyone (if that was the impression that got across), I'd just like TPU to scale back on these "news".

Wait, so now Squadron 42 is another game? This is the only reason I even put any money into this debacle...Keep moving the goal posts CIG it’s going to catch up with you soon...

You believe everything that Crytek is spewing? Crytek is saying it's another game, not CIG.

Star Citizen = Multiplayer

INB4 "we had to drop squadron 42, despite being the most expensive game ever produced, because we weere given a lolsuit. In other news, the MMO will now have lootboxes to determin whether or not you get to keep your land. Start preordering crates now, only a limited number will be produced per day!!!"

Roberts cant keep his promises. As awful as it sounds, there needed to be a publisher holding his leash for star citizen to be any good. I'll be amazed if the game ever releases.

The people who says this are the ones that don't follow the vast amount of updates every week on the development of the game. They have done so much over the years, i'm always amazed by their progress. It's so advanced, however I wish they can focus and just add stuff in after it "releases".

Lootboxes are distasteful, but I think the fuel for ships should become a microtransaction :p

No man, the game has been rigged from the beginning, and the MTX is called 'Ship Insurance'. It seems pretty clear to me for a long time that this is the concept they will use as a stand-in for a subscription MMO model.

I'm not picking on anyone (if that was the impression that got across), I'd just like TPU to scale back on these "news".

I find this pretty relevant because it has a potential to directly affect game developers and their products.

Semantics. From the beginning, SQ42 was going to be a separate release, and the PU and other stuff would follow suit. Release, game... If they had 'released' Star Marine as a separate product yes, thén it would have been relevant. Right now the only differences are in how they market it.

I haven't followed that closely. I have heard about "ship insurance", but I don't know what that is. I always thought it's something you purchase so if/when someone blows you out of the "sky", you get some in-game currency back to make it easier to get beck on the horse.

I should hope other developers actually know how to sign a contract. But ok, it's a fair observation.

More game news is being published on TPU because of the closure of NPU.

The Splinter Cell games did that for a long a time too. Literally separate executables for single and multi. Still sold as one complete game though.

All that progress is for nothing if it never gets released because of feature creep.

There is a possibility, albeit remote, that the court could rule Star Citizen can no longer be sold in the USA.

lol all these CIG haters

Most either don't back SC or have warped views of what SC is. Not that CIG hasn't bumbled on some of it's information from time to time. But still...how often do you get the chance of seeing a AAA level title be developed in front of you? There is a reason most companies don't do it. The dev cycle is a fluid place, not concrete which people seem to think. Then there are the haters and knuckleheads who think games just get pooped out like a duck with the runs.

Unless you back CIG and have actual credible reasons to be critical, or can demonstrate the reading comprehension skills of a turnip, hater opinions aren't worth a darn.

Crytek is just digging their own grave at this point. SC backers can be mighty passionate about it. If they for a second think that even some of their money is going to fight Crytek...Crytek better be ready for backlash like they've never seen. Not just from an internet social media level. But full out mountain of poop bags at their door step. The passionate SC backers will take it personally. You don't mess with people who go as far as some of them do to support SC. To them they aren't suing CIG, but the backers who support CIG.

Yes, but imho this is only remotely gaming related. It's more about legal issues (if that).

I can't speak for everyone but, some of us simply think they should get the games out the door sometime soon. It's been $170million and five years later, four years if you're generous, and it's still not past beta last I looked. The criticism isn't baseless.

...which even if the company existed and was already setup isn't that long. Money does not equal time. No one can build a skyscrape in a day regardless of how much money is put into the effort. You have to remember that both the company and the game had to be built. The company is set. Now we wait for the game. I backed this game because I'm tired of dishing out tons of money for rushed BS games. I WANT them to take their time and do as much as possible. The scope of this game is awesome, and I want every single piece of it. Will it take time? sure it will. Rome wasn't built in a day. ;) I honestly don't know why people have such hatred towards CIG. This is a game completely funded by the people. No one is forced to buy anything.

I don't hate the company or Roberts; I want to play S42 and at least try SC (in a feature complete state). I do think it's been mismanaged to some extent though.

I don't hate the company or Roberts; I want to play S42 and at least try SC (in a feature complete state). I do think it's been mismanaged to some extent though.
Has feature creep and mismanagement written all over it. Shouldn't really be surprising though considering Freelancer had the same problem which is why Roberts was kicked off it after Microsoft bought Digital Anvil. Reminds me a lot of Peter Molyneux: brilliant game designer but doesn't have a head for business (a "finisher").

I'm hoping RSI/CIG have a roadmap to completion and have ironed out their management issues. If they have not, the game will never be finished. If they have, then it should be mostly smooth sailing to release.
