UEG’s report claims that in 2019, several members from Quantic Labs were sent to CD Projekt to meet with the lead developers of Cyberpunk 2077 to discuss the QA process. However, instead of the QA team being comprised of veteran QA testers, the team was allegedly largely made up of junior members of staff with less than one year of experience.
The sacrificial lamb for the slaughter. I find this move pretty low of Quantic, I've been in their shoes, its overwhleming if you're not prepared.

This would explain that^.
CD Projekt was under the impression that the QA team was comprised largely of veteran QA staff, the video alleges, but even the QA project lead for Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly had around one year of experience.
Its like being a mechanic saying you can rebuild transmission with nothing but a screw driver not knowing how to even change engine oil.

Around 75 Quantic Lab employees are named in Cyberpunk 2077’s credits (which includes its CEO and managers), alongside around 70 QA coordinators and analysts internally at CD Projekt Red.
At the start, Quantic exaggerated the how many employees were actually doing the QA work when in reality it started with 30.
According to the confidential documents, in the summer of 2020, the Cyberpunk 2077 testing team at Quantic Lab was expanded from 30 to 60 people. However, it’s claimed that these 30 new testers were new hires with “weeks” of training, which allegedly distracted the more experienced staff and added pressure to an already strained process.
Ahh more sheep...

Upper management in Quantic Labs also allegedly forbid testers from ever referencing that they worked on the game, even banning them from including it in their portfolios when applying for future roles.
Typical when everyone knows upper management is trying to cover their ass and not look bad.

Sounds like a compounding shitshow between both parties. Seems neither really wanted to take responsibility for anything.

Good to know and they should sue Quantic for that. Just wow at the dev scene, so much shit going on there.

IMO, a sham company like Quantic prolly screwed its employees too, or the dsigruntling is because of a passed over promotion.

I'd bet that Quantic is not worth as much as CD Project Red lost from the games launch.

It’s kinda insane and too bad CDPR didn’t better check before working with this company or didn’t raise questions when they started doing it with inexperienced workers, simply checked everything better.

Because that is ridiculous, yes Quantic did bad, now who hired them again, exactly, who should have been validating Quantico work, yep both.
And who was it actually making the game, no one at CD project tried it then ,hmmnnn riighht.

Likely this. ^ You'd figure as large as CDPR is they have atleast one in-house game tester to verify its playable.

Exactly. Who is the final responsible stakeholder here? CDPR. Not Quantic.

This simply fits in the long list of examples of CDPR's horrible project management.

Ah, yes. The classic "shoot the messenger". Not sure how a former employee violating their NDA absolves Quantic or CDPR of their actions.

it's a video game for pete sake, I don't take these things so serious. the fact said companies are even making an investigation and report suggests they know they fell short of their goal and are looking into why that happened, and giving the benefit of the doubt here, how to improve and not repeat their mistakes. Any responsible company is going to explore process improvement, especially after such a public mistake. The game got pulled from Playstation for a period if I remember right, money talks, these companies are in the business of making money, not video games, not electronic entertainment, etc, they exist to make money. I'm sure they were not happy about all the lost sales due to their game being pulled from an electronic storefront based on how crappy the game was running. They do NOT want that mistake to happen again, no matter how little anyone thinks of them due to these past mistakes, they don't want to repeat that, it hurt their bottom line. Now, I'm also sure the game made everyone a boatload and then some, but they could have made even a bigger boatload and not lost the street cred they previous held. They can more easily find other avenues to make up more profits, but the street cred they lost will be much more difficult to claw back. They and everyone knows this is how the world works.

so I stand by my comment. some little shit thinks "oh boy why they haven't announced this to the community yet?! I, the unsung hero of Quantic/CDPR will make all is right in the world by selling this to some internet news outlet". puuuuuuhhhlease! as if leaking these documents does anything to benefit the company, the game, or the investigation and potential improvements. this was an ego trip by some pissed off employee that got looked over for a promotion, etc reasons to be mad at the world and blame everyone around you for your shortcomings, with their sole purpose of dragging their employer(s) through the mud

Maybe to you it's about the video game. I'm more concerned about the people who make it. The games industry still has, despite all the talk about crunch, a marked tendency to treat QA teams poorly. That will never change if the problems just keep getting swept under the rug.

If you guys think people who make complicated games that take 10 years to finish, with a heck load of love for details, for just “money reasons” you’re totally wrong. This isn’t Battlefield1267236 or COD 163736 or FIFA 2263, people like those at CDPR do it for the love of games and artistic work and just after that for the money, otherwise they would do phoney phone games, or something like a free to play on PC or a cash grab like FIFA.

Sure thing, but its really about the companies that hire them that need to enforce a quality standard.

Demand excellence. I work in top end of businesses in my country and that is essentially what this is about. The fact Quantic managed to pull a stunt like this speaks volumes about CDPRs own management. I also see numerous companies with preferred suppliers of consultants, and those without, and there is a marked difference in company policy and culture too.

Quantic have released a reply saying essentially all projects are different, we are great and it wasn't all our fault though.

Any Multi-Million to Multi-Billion (to Multi-Trillion) biz is 'serious'. Just because you feel as you do about the products, doesn't change the fact 'entertainment industry' has always been serious business.

I am not sure what exactly you are referring to when you say "these companies". Its better to say that Producers of a game, i.e., Electronic Arts, Epic, Ubisoft, etc., care about the money, where as the game development studio cares more about the game. There is a distinction here. If a game producer happens to own a game studio it does give them the right to say "our game", after all they do own the rights of the game, that doesnt mean they care more about the game, this is where you are conditionally right.

I always believed game producers did actually core somewhat about the game they produce, but only marginally. The smokescreen so PR/marketers can show the community it does care even if it is a half-hearted gesture.

Still CDK's responsibility. It's their product.

people like those at CDPR do it for the love of games and artistic work and just after that for the money, otherwise they would do phoney phone games, or something like a free to play on PC or a cash grab like FIFA.
Thanks for believing in us. We will get better!
