Sure, you can use it. It is very unlikely it is "dangerous" or that it will cause harm to the connected devices. However, its output voltages may not be very "clean", regulated or stable. That is, it may not provide sufficient ripple suppression and it may drift out of tolerance under varying loads compared to other supplies. And because it does not state it is 80 PLUS certified, it may not be very efficient - that is, it may waste more energy in the form of heat than 80 PLUS certified supplies. So if me, I would use it until I could budget for a better supply, then use that Mercury for test and/or spare supply.

Depends how low on the low end it goes. It's quite a limbo game. Some of the real low end brands (Deer comes to mind) are pretty much short term component deathtraps.

Thanks for explaining, i really appreciate that, so basically its okay for like 1 to 2 months of use ?

:( You can always throw a bunch of "what ifs" and "depends" in just about any scenario to twist it around and make it say whatever you want. It does not change my point. It is "unlikely" to be dangerous or cause damage - especially since it has been working.

And yet there have been tons of low-end generic and Deer PSUs in ancient Dells, HPs, Compaqs and off-the-wall brand computers still chugging along in offices and elsewhere that are 10 year old systems, totally caked in dust and carpet fuzz, not missing a beat. Poor quality does NOT automatically imply it is dangerous, or cause harm or become a deathtrap. Poor quality typically just results in premature failure.

Thanks for explaining, i really appreciate that, so basically its okay for like 1 to 2 months of use ?
I won't commit to any timetable. But if it has been working fine, there is no reason to suggest it is going to fail tomorrow. But it could - but then so could the highest quality model from the most reliable brand. It just "depends".

Well, I once had a psu that liked to fry components, good thing everything was under warranty, it was until I figured out voltages fluctuated more that 20% and I switched to a Seasonic S12 that things normalized. PC would also randomly crash, like shutdown entirely, it was a P4 and I had disabled hyper threading because of stability...

What's 50€ more when you spend 600-800€ on new parts?

its been used with i5 9400f and gtx 1660 for straight 3 months, so i guess it will be fine in that build

Yes you are right but, i dont really have cash in my budget atm, and this PSU worked for me with higher build while OC well, so i guess its going to be okay for a i3 9100f and gt 1030, and btw its just a temp solution.

Well, as long it has lot's of headroom and is not stressed to much, it should hold I suppose...

No doubts anyone who has worked with computers for awhile will have anecdotal tales of woes with power supplies causing problems. I've personally had a CM supply go up in smoke. It blackened the case interior, set off the smoke detectors and stank up the whole house. But fortunately, it shutdown output quickly and did not fry any of the connected devices. I've had more than one supply (don't remember the brands) kick the service panel circuit breaker every time you tried to turn it on. And then, of course, other supplies that just failed in other ways.

That said, I have seen supplies take out connected devices but I can't rule out lightning involvement in those cases either. If Mother Nature has it out for you, there's really nothing you can do about it short of unplugging from the wall long before the storm arrives.

At least it has certifications
Well, some makers have been known to claim they have such certs when they don't. So you can't always go by that. The good news is the legitimate regulatory agencies what issue those safety certifications typically are pretty aggressive at going after those counterfeit logos/certs and fraudulent companies - "IF" they learn about them.

and if said jurisdiction is willing to go after them on their behalf. Sadly in this day and age, that isn't always the case.

As a sidenote several years back Tom's Hardware did destruction tests on bottom-level power PSU's. They did all kinds of horrible things to kill them. There was one brand they named "The Igniter" because it caught on fire.

Guys which powersupply do you think is safer ? The Mercury one that i told you about or this lenovo one from a prebuilt ?
The LiteOn is more reputable, and therefore "safer" if that's what you're worried about. LiteOn make PSUs for loads of companies and whilst they normally only appear in OEM prebuilt PCs, they are a huge manufacturer that stand behind their products and have been vetted/approved by a vast array of international customers.

It's only 180W but I'd expect it to actually be 180W and for the 80+Bronze certification to be genuine, and for its protection circuits to be of a decent standard.

The Mercury One is a crapshoot. It may be okay but the claimed specifications are straight up lies. Who knows what protection features it really has, and your guess is as good as mine as to how many Watts it will deliver before something fails. Given that you've run a ~200W system off it for 3 months I suspect it'll be fine with the i3/GT1030 but if you already own the LiteOn then that's the one I'd be installing for my own peace of mind.

ye but that Liteon is for another PC, and its mobo and CPU has different connecters, sadly its pretty hard to find budget psu, they only have mid to high range PSUs in my country, which is over 60$, but for budget all of them are Huntkey, Xigmatek and Mercury, any suggestions ?

Hmm, how much does a seasonic S12 go for these days?
There should be budget thermaltake and corsair psu's too, although corsair also has a bit of fame on some psus...
Well, check TPU's own reviews or listen to the people here anyway...
55$ here, im looking to atleast 450w which is only huntkey atm
