I've waited long enough, I've worked hard for my money, I'm tired of bad performance from Darth Flatulence, and I'm in the upgrade spirit. So I decided that I'm getting a new video card. After some thinking I narrowed it down to four choices, the Radeon 9600, the Radeon 9800SE, the Geforce FX5500, and the Geforce 6200. I eliminated the 9600 and the FX5500 pretty quickly, and decided to think about the Radeon 9800SE or the Geforce 6200. The GPUreview comparison said that they were pretty close to equivalent on everything except memory bandwidth (twice as much on the 9800SE, I wonder why, 9800SE has 128 bit memory, 6200 has 64 bit memory). Basically, I can get the 6200 now, and only spend $45 (I have about that amount to spend). Newegg link here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130008 . I can either do that or save up a few more weeks, and get a 9800SE with copper RAMsinks and Arctic Cooling MX1 Thermal Compound (I have VGA silencer). This would cost me $95 after all was said and done, and I'm not sure I want to wait. I would DEFINITELY do the softmod if I were to go with the 9800SE. And yes the 9800SE was bottlenecked on Darth Flatulence, 1GHZ P3, 512MB PC133, Intel i815E Solano. I just wanted to hear your thoughts :p.

6200 has better image quality but 9800SE has better performance. The 6200 also runs cooler.

6200 will run cooler, be easier to set up and require less power, raw performance will be lower but it'll remain supported for longer than the 9800se will.

Oh yeah and Darth Flatulence will probably never use all the power of a 9800SE. I just remember how much fun it was to mod my 9800SE...I'd love to do it again :p.

Tempting, but you have to remember, I was bottlenecking with the stock 9800SE :p. I'd be going with the 9800SE mostly for the fun of modding it. When I had that video card, I was not really setting 3Dmark05 records . So yeah if I was going down the radeon route, I'd be buying another 9800SE. Thanks for the offer though.

The 9800pro is a good deal... its a nice card. For that price you can't beat it. Yes it will be bottlenecked, but it will have great potential. It flashes to XT with aftermarket cooling. :) I would go for the 9800pro.

Um, right.

You realize that unlocking a 128bit card is kinda useless. It will be bottlenecked by it's own lack of memory bandwidth.

Hell, the card is even worth more than $60. Oh well though. lol..

Yeah I was going to say, $60? When a new 9800SE cost's $63? :p. Anyway's, I'll see if anyone else vote's Geforce 6200 before going to see how fast newegg will ship it :D. Any advantages with 9800SE I don't know about yet?

Zekrah sounds to me like this could possibly be a problem.. gaming these days does require alot of video card power, so if I was you I would really think about what kind of shit your doing. The Geforce 6200 will probably suit what you are looking for considering you aren't using a HD screen nor are you doing any kind of projections with your computer.. unless your doing porn friday nights alone.<<<lmao j/king. You would probably want something that doesn't require as much cooling..the other 9800SE is a beast on power :)

Loves You.

yeah, so I have read...oc'ed it will still put out what he needs for that Call of Duty 2 and Halo.. his other computer Aegis is a beast dude, and Darth Flat.. just needs a little love too. I think his system will turn out fine with that card...I have a feeling he just wants to be UBER NERD and go for something he really doesn't need, but that cheap ass won't even buy the real games.. he plays demos lol. Oh well... one day I will hook him up with the goods because fortunately I am not a cheap ass lol. I really do like the card.. the Geforce6200. I just think with the computer he is working with now.. the 9800SE will be too much.

Might have to wait a little bit before getting that video card...My little brother hit the off button at the worst possible moment and my page file got corrupted :(. So yeah I eventually got the page file fixed, but C:\WINDOWS\DUMPb62d8.tmp is cross-referenced or something like that...any ideas on how to fix? I WANT to delete it, but think it might corrupt the rest of the OS.

My 9800pro will outperform that 9800SE like there's no tomorrow. :) It's worth more than 60dollars.

You guys keep saying 9800 will be too much?

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think that a Geforce 6200 will suit my needs. The 6200 IS a decent GPU, it should be just fine. And one more thing, if I were into buying that 9800pro, I'd be offering about $115 for it, but I'm not into the market right now. Anyways back to the windows problem. Should I be worried about deleting DUMP62d8.tmp due to cross referenced allocation unit 76193?

By the way, if I were you, Id have to punch my brother in the face for doing that, though again, my brother is older.

it's not BIG, more like "possibly important" :p. I was hoping to just delete it, but any windows experts say that I shouldn't? Because it looks like something windows can't boot without.

Ok, I tested on my P3 (with XP), it did not corrupt it. It only shut off explorer, but I started it again, so its cool... I think.

Software XP Home SP2, can't wait for Vista SP1.
Greetings from Darth Flatulence :p. Just for future reference, if you ever have something show up in disk checking that is cross referenced, reboot your computer, skip disk checking, get into windows, and delete that file. Then reboot your computer and let disk check make the necessary corrections to the file system. And the new video card is shipping :D.
