Thermaltake
Coolermaster
Antec
Enermax
Silverstone
And OCZ

You really can't go wrong with most of those.

I have heard that Antec are down the crapper now. And Thermaltake is OK but not the 430W unit.

This is the best "cheap" PSU I've ever owned, and is currently working perfectly for the second owner. Epower/Topower makes some of the best OEM PSU's on the market, and have been maketing their own brand for the last year or so. This PSU and the Corsair TX750 are the best performance to price on the market, IMO.

this year dude,when i bought my ocz stealthxstream 500w it didn't post or anything at all,it was faulty as soon as i recieved it and installed it on same day,nothing worked had to get it RMA and i exchanged it for an corsair 400w

Over here the best brand by fair is Corsair, the HX620W is hugely praised.

Of course it is. The HX620 is one of the best PSU's ever. Can you get the TX750 over there? Here it's cheaper than the HX620, and the only thing you give up is modular cables.

No manufacturer is perfect. Every single brand out there makes a lemon one time or another. There is no getting around it, just because one comes up bad doesn't mean the whole company sucks..

Oh, good point. I am not sure about Newegg + international shipping....so I guess I will just recommend brands and spec range.

You want something that is 530 to 800 Watts, based on future expansion. Active PFC is a must and 80 Plus certified if possible.

Not sure what is available or favored on the UK, but 10 to 1, if they make a high end case or are very well know for other high end components, then they aren't going to sell crap PSU's.

EDIT: Also even with the most expensive high quality units there will always be bum unit out there. Nothing is ever perfect. If you get what I'm saying

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I'll try my brothers Antec Earthwatts PSU sometime soon, but it means taking apart both rigs, and that's time consuming. I'm going to work shortly, but might have time to do it this evening. Otherwise it'll be waiting til Wednesday. It's killing me not having my PC!!

If it is the PSU, I expect I'll take the plunge and get myself a fancy Corsair one. Even though it really pains me to spend SO much money on a PSU. If it turns out the PSU doesn't make a difference when I try my brothers one, I'll try the motherboard out of his as well. Either way, I'm going to be buying two things minimum:

1. A Corsair power supply. I figure it's an investment to help protect my PC, and, being a fancy Corsair one, I should gain at least 2 extra e-inches.

2. A surge protector!!

PC seems to be fine now .... :S

Took it out of the case and cleaned everything. I reseated the northbridge heatsink, which as it turns out, was glued to the chip as well as being pinned to the motherboard.

Swapped the SATA cables about and everything seems to be fine now. Still got some nasty clicks from the hard drive to start with, but they've gone now.

Will probably still upgrade my PSU next month, but just hoping it'll all last until then!
