Dead or Bricked

Hi,

What’s the difference between the two? How can i differentiate if the card is bricked or totally dead?

Also, when I reboot the PC using the integrated GPU, should windows/atiflash/anything recognize the bricked GPU (without connecting 1-8 legs)? What exactly does when i connect the 1-8 legs?

I flashed the BIOS on a new ROG STRIX RX580 O8G card. It worked fine for a couple of hours but since then it just don't. The PC won't boot with it, fans don't move, but leds are on. I did not tried 1-8 method since I should have to remove the blackplate.

Thanks

If your card is dead it doesn't operate any longer due to any number of reasons.

If your card is bricked, it had an improper or incompatible software flashed to it ,and may still be recoverable or may also be dead. It goes from bricked to dead after all avenues of recovery have been tried and failed.

The former has no hope the latter still has a sliver of hope

Couldn’t have said it better, some will argue that flashing and modifications are safe and as someone who has flashed modified and used external tools to flash and modify.

I can attest that there is infact a science to be sure but when I hit write it’s nothing short of a dance with the devil.

Always back up the stock bios, if you mod use the stock bios and modify it but use instructions on how to do so.

Doing the wire trick disables write protection as a last ditch effort before either chucking the card, replacing the bios chip or buying a programmer

If you have saved the original bios, then try to reflash it.....if it works then the card was bricked.....if not...the card is dead.

I did say this in another thread about modding GFX cards. What are you going to do if you bricked your card? It's very expensive out there. This is why I have stop modding my card & be happy what I have got.

I hope you can recover the card.

A programmer is the best option and it's very useful. If you have one you never need to worry about a bad flash ever again. The majority of Mobo's & GPU's with soldered EEPROM's will have an SPI header in which you can flash it without even removing it from the board.

Yes, i have a backup (I only modfied memory timings, 2 of the 3 cards runs perfectly, but not the third one). But atiflash don't recognize the GPU. Should it recognize without the 1-8 trick or only after that?

What is a programmer?

Thanks again

I'd like the idea that you created a brick with 6 legs. Just let it walk away.

If your in a position where ati flash isnt recognizing your gpu's you might be stuck. Ive heard others mention having to try multiple times. You might need to go to dos flash, if you havent already.
