Death by fermi

Figured I would start a thread of all the psu's killed by the gtx480 so far. The way and types of powersupplies that have been destroyed make me think that multirail powersupplies are having an issue dealing with the load caused by fermi it has to be drawing more than 300watts under load I don't care what w1zzards review says the 4870x2 which shows to draw more power runs on much lower spec powersupplies just fine. I am not trying to flame the gtx 480 right now I just wonder why the thing is killing some very high spec shit.


Fsp bluetop 1000w with a gtx480 and core i7
Fsp 1200w with a gtx 480 and core i7
Thermaltake toughpower 1200w gtx 480 and core i7
Antec truepower 950w gtx 480 and qx9700



Getting pictures of the antec post gtx480 shortly all of the large caps inside of it blew the tops clear off and the entire rig went out board, ram, cpu, gpu, usb drives, optical drives etc.


as promised pics of the antec 950w the fermi card was shipped back to nvidia not the company that made it nvidia sent a prepaid UPS label for the card

(however I had a FSP Everest 1010 and it was just crap, so I wouldnt recommend FSP )

This one unluckily wasn't an april fools joke a good friend has brought this to my attention at his pc shop they have gotten several mad customers post fermi... I honestly don't get what's going down I want to see what the inards on the psus look like I wonder if the cb's popped on the rails or the overloaded or what the hell happened.

I remember when I was looking at the FSP Everest (given to me by FSP) it looked like a reg ol 400 watt PS... If I was gonna use $600 GPUs I certainly would invest quite a bit in a Proper PS.

And if the systems are that new why are they not calling the OEM instead of bringing them to a shop?

If this is for real your friend should gather as much documentation as possible so we can get a proper recall before too many are sold. A recall is bad, but having to pay for a recall plus fried systems is worse.

These are not my rigs no I have not blown 4 psu's these were blown by people who have purchased the cards from a pair of small pc parts shops

Its cool the antec owner has not got a real cam and is trying to get back up to the pc shop to get pics for us he has a cellcam which will have to do...

I took out my Tough power 1200 and put in my Tough power 1000 and I have allot going with my rig...3USB hardrives...1Blu ray ...3x2GB ram.....4harddrives in raid 0....2High speed fans ..two 120 case fans.....two of the damn 4870x2's.... I 4.2GHZ i7 920C0 with 1.375 hittin it ...webcam....gaming pad...all hardware fans 100% and both my Tough powers are doing great....but hell if one were a bit faulty I am sure it would be pop goes the weasel with forth of July fireworks.

This isn't an april fools gag I am really trying to get some pics from this guys cell phone so I can post them here. The systems are not oem hence the lack of an oem to call and the name brand psu in them.

I remember my X1800XTX master and slave had set of fireworks to one of them POS 450watters that come in towers...I was a running fool for the main power cord hoping the rest of my hardware was alright and it was but hot damn did the POS PSU give off a display!

I'd like to see proof he actually has a Fermi not to mention having one long enough to blow up four PSU's regardless of being a small PC shop. Have you seen this stuff personally or is it just word of mouth?
