Hello Everyone.

So, i really need help on this because i can't decide.. lol.

I really need to BUY A NEW (not used or second hand GPU!) graphics card, and i can afford RTX 2070 Gaming Z for 669€ or RTX 2080 Msi Gaming X Trio for 899€, it's the only models that i want, and only ones that i'm interested in.

I play at 1440p 144hz monitor (Dell S2716DG), and i swap my GPU every new generation of Nvidia, but this year i just can't decide between, i'm coming from a GTX 1070, and i usually buy the x70 of all the series, and that's why i think it's more worth to me to spend the money on the RTX 2070 because i will sell it at any point and will serve me well, or get 2080 just because yes and lose more money reselling it on the next gen...

Like i said, I DON'T want used/second hard graphics card, and i'm only interested in those two models, what would you do in my situation? :D

Best regards.

I would buy a used 1080 ti and save a hell of a lot of cash but that's just me. 2080ti costs way too much for the same performance

used 1080ti or 2070 armor. you gotta understand that nvidia doesn't want you to buy a turing gpu now. they're still selling pascals, and turing is nothing revolutionary in terms of rtx off performance.
2070 armor is quite well priced here in PL, goes for 2300 pln while gaming z is 2900. It's the one I'd get if I was to go new, but best strategy is to wait. I just got a 10 month old 1080Ti trio at 2700 and I'm not looking back, it strolls over 2070 performance most of the time. Coming form 1070, 2070 is a very decent 30-40% upgrade, but I'd still get the 1080Ti or wait for 2080.
He means double the price for 25% more performance.

I would spring for the 2070 if you must upgrade. However, are you really in need of something to replace a 1070? That's a fine GPU for today. The 2070 is right between a 1080 and 1080TI in performance. You can't take advantage of RTX right now, nor the DLSS. If you wait for the technology to mature you will pay a lower price and actually be able to take advantage of the new features.

If you upgrade every gen, then 2070, it's good enough for 1440p 144hz till 7nm arrives. I had gtx 1080 at 1440p 165hz and it did pretty good. I'd still favour 2070 armor though, not the gaming z. It's 100 bucks for a flashy cooler, that's it.

@1080 98/79 = 1.24 res this thread and op is concerned with
@1440 97/74 = 1.3 res this thread and op is concerned with
@2160 97/70 = 1.38 res this thread and op is NOT concerned with

1080ti = $675
2080ti = $1199

1199/675 = 1.78

And I'm just being nice using FE msrp and not the $1500 their going for at the moment.

Go 2080 then you have a better chance to keep up with the 144hz

2070 is the best so called "value" card of the new RTX series so far but like JalleR says, the 2080 will be better for your 144Hz monitor.

Just a side note, you can buy a 1080 Ti brand new too if you are not interested in the new features of the RTX. It competes with the 2080 for less $$$.

If the RTX2080 is in your budget and you're looking to upgrade substantially, it is purely logical to go for the RTX2080.
The 2070 won't make you that happy. It's the cheapest RTX but it's a bit of a con. For the money you're willing to pay, clearly it's the 2080. I wouldn't touch a 1080ti when the 2080 is currently, marginally better and should improve with DLSS (or whatever it's called).

A friend of mine was in need of a GPU and he doesn't have lot of money, so I sold him my 1070 for cheap, so I don't have any GPU right now and I need to buy it today and fast for work needs lol.

I've read all your suggestions and I still don't know what to do... Please don't suggest used GPU as I don't want it, 1080ti new is out of question because in my country they are for the same price as the 2080 so the the newer one here is the logical pick.

Alltough like I said, I'm just worried about the resell value as I change GPU every new generation and I believe that I'm going to lose way more money with 2080 than 2070, or am I wrong? Alltough there is average 20/25fps between both, wich is very tempting performance, but don't know if it's worth it not for a guy that never keeps the same GPU for long time.

(2080 ti obviously out of question, way expensive lol)

To be honest I would wait until all the bugs and problems have been ironed out then think about pricing and type of RTX cards

What bugs? These things have been benchmarked and they run the most demanding titles. There's nothing major to fix. Pricing, on the other hand, can't possibly shoot up more than it already has, waiting could let the prices settle down a bit.

Yeah been benched but not fully with Raytracing fully enabled plus there are always bugs in the driver software as Nvidia keeps releasing updates for different issues as seen in the last lot of drivers ??? yeah waiting is a good idea to see if prices drop slightly but I would also look at the GTX 10 range of cards get good decent prices now seeing that the Miners have ceased usage of GPUs and the Bitcoin market as dropped considerably...:)

The OP doesn't want a pre-owned card. He wants something NOW that he can pick up at the store without having to wait

I believe my best option here is RTX 2070, i've read that HardOCP review and i believe it's the best choice for me, it's a GPU that will provide me more than enough perfomance i need for 1440p and a good replacement in therms of value/perfomance for my previous 1070.

What you guys think? The best call here?

2070 is a minor jump and given its price totally not worth doing. Resale value = nonexistant because the performance is available elsewhere in a 1080 that is cheaper.

2080 is ridiculously overpriced and if you think its a decent resale, think again - the performance is available elsewhere in a 1080ti that can be had for fár less money.

So: neither card is a good upgrade path if you think of cost effectiveness. 2080ti or skip, is what I would advise you. And even that isn't ideal.

The best call is not in your mind at the moment, make sure you realize that. RTX is a stillborn and if there was ever a gen to skip, it is this one.

The best call is in fact a second hand 1080ti. You may or may not like it, but I'm not recommending overpriced, dead technology.

What kind of junk is this? First google hit? You don't even know what you're looking at here.

Here's a decent one, making it easy to see why 1080ti is the go-to.
