After making the switch to offering just Vista on most of its systems, computer manufacturer Dell has backtracked a little and decided to re-introduce Microsoft's 'old' OS. This move comes due after customers were asking for XP back via Dell's IdeaStorm project which asks customers to help the company come up with product ideas. "We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our Dell consumer PC offerings," said Dell. Bringing back XP was one of the most popular requests, but it was still well below the demand for features such as Linux and OpenOffice on Dell PCs. Windows XP will be introduced to at least four Inspiron laptops and two Dimension desktops - a move which Microsoft is unlikely to support as it persuades customers towards the new Windows Vista, however Microsoft representatives were unavailable to comment.

Ain't that the truth
Dell goes back to XP
MS sells 244 copies of Vista in a foreign market
horrible 3rd party drive issues, etc

I guess Vista is the best OS of the year :wtf:

Recently i've been hunting for a new laptop so this week I purchased a new HP laptop preloaded with Vista. The HP laptop had some very nice specs. I returned the laptop the following day because of how Vista just sucks the life out of a laptop powered with a Core Duo 2 and 2 gigs of ram. When I returned the laptop the clerk at Staples asked me why I was returning it. I told her I love the computer and hate the Windows Vista. She told me she's heard it before.

Today I ordered a new Thinkpad T60 and I had it preloaded with XP Pro before it's no longer sold. :rockout: I'm sure i'm not the only one who's made the same request. Microsoft knows this as well and that's the reason to cutoff XP sales past January 2008. XP is Vista's biggest competition.

Hopefully if the rumors are true that this is Microsoft's last monolith OS that's the best thing that can happen to us all. Vista is one bloated piece of shitware, IMO.

Lets hope that in SP1 they'll do what Norton did with NIS 2007, cut down the resources hunger! NO one cares for such fancy security that gets cracked anyway, and prevents you (the legit customer) from doing anything as it slowly brings your juggernaut of a computer down to a muddy halt

I am using windows vista just for normal school use with *cough* nod32, office 2007 enterprise.*cough* that i recieved from download. I barely have anything to do with school, but it handy though , and i have windows 2000 for mainly battlefield 2. i only have windows 2000 cause it takes less memory, which adds more for bf2.

I like Vista, but I won't defend it. The reasons people like it are legitimate, and the reasons they don't are as well. The things I like about it apply to me, and the things others don't like don't apply to me.

Becaus eof that, I'm glad they make it an option.

ok i disslike dell but this is a smart move. vista is crap, i tryed it on 5 computers i own, it was FAR slower and less reliable then 2k, xp, or 2003, it has FAR worse driver support(specly the 64bit version.....OI!!! )

dell should offer xp+openoffice+abiword+firefox+opera for a nice allaround software offering to blow away MS crapware.(office 2007 is HORRIBLE!!!!)

I like Office 2007 and Vista, but I do agree that Vista isn't without it's issues. All in all, I think it's good Dell is giving it's customers more choices.
