Via SlickDeals, here's a decent deal on a Dell PowerEdge T130 directly from Dell.com that comes with a Skylake CPU. Make sure to read the instructions on SlickDeals!
The $100 coupon code is good for all servers (code SERVER$100) and the 35% off code (SAVE35) appears to be good for all servers, workstations, desktops, and laptops too. If you follow the instructions on SlickDeals, you get an additional $100 rebate through SlickDeals themselves when ordering a T130.
Playing around with configurations, I've got a Xeon E3-1270 v5 (basically i7-6700) with 16GB of ECC memory for $624.85 after all rebates.
The recommended configuration is an i5 equivalent with a Xeon E3-1220 (4c/4t 3GHz/3.5GHz Boost), 8GB of ECC RAM, 500GB drive which comes to $411 shipped. Drop it to 4GB of memory and it should come out to $391. Not bad.
The absolute cheapest you can make this rig is $222.50 after rebates with a Celeron G3900 (2.8GHz). Comparable system would be ~$280.
In my humble opinion, the real deal here is for the anything specced with a Xeon 1220 V5 or cheaper (unless you need server hardware). The cheaper you spec it out, the more that $200 total discount works in your favor.
For crunchers such as myself, I'm not sure this would beat a last-gen dual core for price/performance, but I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.
