At SIGGRAPH, Dell unveiled its first UltraSharp monitor featuring Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) native resolution. The new UltraSharp 32 from Dell, as the name suggests, is a 32-incher. Based on an indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) panel, its color gamut spans across a gargantuan 1.07 billion colors, a 64 times increase over what conventional monitors offer, 16.7 million. The monitor will include software that lets you calibrate it including hardware access to the LUT (lookup table). Dell plans a commercial roll-out of the UltraSharp 32 in Q4-2013.

Just get 3 Titans, and turn off AA. You wont need it at that resolution anyways.

You need AA up to at least 8k, maybe more. Plenty of people playing with 4k will tell you that. I remember people thought you wouldn't need it with 1440p either. Need just as much as I did at 1080p.

Knowing Dell and their Ultrasharp branding, this will probably be dirt cheap, maybe only like 8 grand.

I'll wait for Seiki to wise up and put DisplayPort on their 39" model.

Still, this is much more exciting news than the plethora of junk 1080p screens that are still getting pushed to market.

Requiring AA has nothing to do with resolution.

That all depends on the size of the monitor (phyisical size). The bigger the display at a given resolution, the bigger the pixels and more need of AA.

So far these sharp panels are the smallest in 4k, and have the smallest pixels. Not that I have one. But unless you talked to people that bought the 32" sharp paneled 4K's, and not the 39" and 50" 4k TV's that are also out, then it you can't really know.

You need it... but not SSAA or 8xMSAA or stuff like that... just a simple 2xAA with or without some form of blending for more complex geometry/textures. Because the jaggies ARE there, just in a much finer form, so even a little AA will soften the jagged parts out.

QHD + ~2xAA + post-AA (where it makes sense) @120Hz/FPS @ 27" IPS ... *drools*

When it comes down to it i think it come to preference. I can imagine a bunch with screenshots spotting the jags then there the ones who be yeah i see them some times and those who just fucking play and enjoy..

To me it's pointless buying hardware is expensive enough as it is so this is not a solution to make things look better at this time at least.. Then again i am pretty happy how good games look as long as the company has done a good job.

GREAT NEWS. Have been waiting many years for this resolution and DPI.

Now I will just have to wait until the price comes down and lands on planet earth. This is going to be ROYALLY expensive.

--- has to be the least thought out knee-jerk response. For desktop, photoshop, prductivity and CGI work, use native. For gaming use half resolution mode, ie 1920x1080.

Guys, I see those comments over and over again with no back proof. My 5" phone has 450 PPI (1080p), (that's the equivalent of having 8K resolution on a 20" monitor) and I still can see jaggies when playing 3D games. So you will never be able to get rid of them.
The good part is that the standard AA is dieing slowly but is being replaced by SMAA, which have almost no performance cost but with a quality of at least 8xMSAA. :toast:

Because graphics on mobile games are nowhere near as good as consoles never mind PC's yes they look good on the phones small screen but put it on a 24"+ monitor and it would look like an N64 game

even still your comparing apples to oranges, the textures aren't as detailed in mobile games hence more jagged edges

That will almost be like buying a Ferrari and drive it at 100kph :|

Yes, if you buy a Ferrari, then while you drive in the town you have to drive it at 50kph or slower.

When on the open road you can go quicker ;)

Just because you will drive your Ferrari in town and be limited to 50kph, doesnt make a Ferrari useless :pimp:

The cost for 4K monitors at this size will in all likelihood be somewhere between the price of two and three Titan video cards. If you can afford to buy two or three Titan video cards then you can afford to buy these new 4K monitors.

I do like what Seiki is doing with their SE50UY04 (~$1000 USD) and SE39UY04 ($699 USD) 4K Ultra HDTV models but I don't expect them to use DisplayPort any time soon on any of their current of future models. HDTVs typically don't have DisplayPort and the same is true for UHDTVs.

HDMI 2.0 is a more likely standard to see on UHDTV / HDTV.
