I'm confused about Devils Canyon!

What I thought I knew,
Devils Canyon is a part of the Haswell refresh, basically what a Sandy Bridge 2700k was to 2600k. It would be on sale in the next 4 weeks or so. I could pop one in to my Z87 board with a Bios update, forgoing some of the new tech like support for M.2 interface.

Now I'm not sure if any or all of this is true. It seems Devils Canyon will not be available until mid summer now. But some chips like the 4790 and the 4790s (these are Haswell refresh but not Devils Canyon?) will be here in a few weeks, as well as the new Z97 boards (can I put my 4770k in a Z97 board?).

Google Devils Canyon and all the articles are a month old except maybe one here on Techpowerup which if I remember rightly just confused me, but that mite just be down to a severe lack of sleep.

Hopefully you guys can clear a few things up for me.

From what I understand Devils canyon cpus are supposed to be better at overclocking than haswell so it's only going to be the unlocked k parts. As for the 4770k on z97 you should be ok.

Devil's Canyon is not just a refresh, it's a specific chip, the 4790K. It uses different PCB, IHS and solder than non-K CPUs. This will be the first CPU design from Intel that has very specific features in it's physical design that directly benefit overclockers and overclocking only.

It is NOT launching in the coming weeks. It will come out later this year, along with an unlocked 25th anniversary edition of the Celeron. OR what it Pentium? Either way...this Celeron/Pentium/whatever will also feature the same treatment, but will likely have a different die under the hood, meaning overclockers and enthusiasts get two chips coming that are specially designed just for them. This is Intel telling enthusiasts that they value their business, and want to cater to them( or us, as the case may be).

And that's all I can say right now..the rest is under NDA. ;)

Ok thank you. So it is part of the Haswell refresh but they are going a bit further with the 4790"k", going to some extra lengths so to speak. Hope the price is going to be the same as a I7 4770k.
So info about compatibility of Devils Canyon and the Z97 chipset is not going to be available just yet, it's all under NDA?

Sandy Bridge OC with Haswell performance and 4.6Ghz standard/easy are my guess too. As this would be ideal and appease the enthusiast market. Well even if I can't use my 4770k in a Z97 board I'm buying one anyway just because I love motherboards lol, it can sit on my desk for a few months looking good, until I can put a 4790k in it. I wont bother with a non K chip. The new red G1 sniper looks good. I mean aesthetically of course because I don't know the specs.
