Why do people remember Diablo 2 as this balanced game that wasn't a gear grind? I think you may have knocked your head... :kookoo:
There was 1 dominating build... Hammerdin, go collect the gear for that and give me your hour count.
:toast:

Any reason to go back with recent patches? They did more 'balancing' in other words they buffed almost everything again.

That's just it - D2 was not(!) a balanced game, it had all sorts of fun stuff you could 'exploit' - or more accurately, double dip in and get creative with. Itemization. That is what made D2. D3 is a boring, linear experience where you keep stacking things and 'maybe' have some special legendary effect that really makes a difference. Its dumbed down in that respect.

No I disagree. D2 was just as grindy...maybe more. How many times did you kill Nightmare Baal and Mephisto? Like 10k? Besides sometimes grinding is exactly what some people want to do. Don't get me wrong diablo 3 has it's faults. If I could merge Grim Dawn, PoE, Sacred 2, Dungeon Siege, and D3 into 1 game...taking the best elements from those you would have an awesome game.

I agree..but honestly I don't play D3 for the story line. I play for the loot and ladder and higher greater rift challenge. I don't agree with not changing stuff because this is honestly the first time...in a long time...where the classes are balanced and there are actually more than 1 way to play a class. If they never tried to balance the game then I would have never come back.

The only negative thing about this is I think they have such cool settings for stories.. but they don't quite make games suited for it (that includes SC and WC too). D3 also had a great writer at one point (Brian Kindregan, who did some of Bioware's best stuff).. but they didn't really make use of him. I was just talking about Mass Effect 2 in another thread actually. You can thank him for some of the best character stories in that. But Blizz doesn't really make character games.

For all you D2 players, anyone else have Ith Bow or any of those other godly hacked items back in the day? I ran a zon with ith bow white ring 40/15 armor, was like a machine gun. Hammerdins didn't have anything on that build.

@TheMailMan78 your not a tool. But i voted for yes. I just purchased Diablo 3 last weekend. It's garbage ! I will never touch anything that comes from Blizzard ever again....with the exception of this upcoming weekend for Overwatch, cuz why not it's for free.

Is not Garbage at all then , this kind of judgment without any sort of explanation is idiotic and i like d3 a lot more that d2 with no resolution options .

I hit a 143 on HC season with my Sader. :toast:

D3 is all about the end game if you want to play seriously. When a new season starts it'll take about 5hrs to get to max lvl and then you work on getting the best gear and getting paragon points to get stronger to push the leaderboards. If you don't enjoy they type of top down RPG then it's best to stay away generally. You can obviously play however you like but the game has evolved in to a heavy focused end game.

This new patch don't add anything but it does buff and rework a bunch of items that over doubles the number of viable builds for each class. You can enjoy a style of playing that you like and not feel that you're under performing because the build is weak.

What made D2 less of a grind was simply due the maps being random, this is were D3 failed for me at least.

I be back playing D3 if they used those random maps they used in rifts for the actual original game.

I have the max stash tabs. I just love to restart with everyone, it's pretty much just that. Once you get all the gear that you want/need and you have 800 or more paragon just doing high greater rifts trying to find that one drop that's 5% better or hoping for a primal gets old for me. Each season is like a new beginning with the new patch that tends to change things up. If it wasn't for each new season I wouldn't be back to D3 nearly as much. It's not what Blizzard is giving me to play each new season, it's what I get out of a new season.

It helps to have someone who will play each season with you too, as much as you do. :p

I read somewhere that the enemies scale in D3, is that true? Thinking about getting it, but that sounds terrible. I've also read it's not very challenging.

Of course its standard procedure for most ARPGs to do this, at least within a level "range". D3 keeps scaling though, after max level you get six levels of Torment that are additional, exponential scales and then there are Rifts that scale up further still. But those scales are fixed to each 'rank' of Torment so you do definitely feel progression.

If you want a deep and much more free form ARPG / D2 clone, check out Grim Dawn or Path of Exile. Both offer twenty times more replay value and actually exciting progression instead of an infinitely bigger number on screen.

That said if you like smooth as butter slaughter without too much thinking involved, D3 is enjoyable!

What I want is basically D2, or Titan Quest. I tried PoE some years ago and while it was sorta fun i don't really enjoy how you can just remake your char on the fly. And I found it boring after a few hours. Never tried Grim dawn, may have to.

D3 is definitely worth playing, there's no doubt about it. Its worth your money on sale (should be half off).
The Necro itself - didn't like it much since its one of the more braindead classes in the game.

About difficulty - its basically endless, since there's the greater rift mechanic. If you're a fan of fast ARPG action i would say go for it.
I have about 7-8K hours played since launch... too much i know...

What I want is basically D2, or Titan Quest. I tried PoE some years ago and while it was sorta fun i don't really enjoy how you can just remake your char on the fly. And I found it boring after a few hours. Never tried Grim dawn, may have to.

Grim Dawn offers so much freedom and creativity in terms of builds it is mental. Its not the smoothest experience but makes up for it with very nice mechanics and depth. And, built on TQ engine (heavily revamped) and by much of its original team. Its DLC are also worth grabbing

I like Diablo 2 the most and have installed it on my computer not long ago. It's like HoMM 3 - it can't be betrayed.

The plot is replete with dashing twists and unexpected incidents. Key characters are dying like flies; enemies become allies and again strive to run back. Betrayals alone throughout history will happen more than in the average game Bioware, but, history can be ignored entirely and selflessly indulge in a bloody slaughter as before.
