lol, 4g is no where near fast enough to stream games. look at onlive, it takes a fiber connection if you really intend to use it practically. streaming to mobile is years away.

I trust DICE. you could smell Cryteks steaming pile long before crysis 2 actually released.

viva la DICE

lol 4g is a bad example, my bad, but yeah I guess it will take a few more years for cloud computing to boom anywhere near the gaming industry also if ever.. much too early to tell, but there's a theory :toast:.

I never knew what people meant by EA ruins good game titles because before Crysis 2, I've had a tonne of fun with all their products but yeah I guess now I kinda know what they mean :S although I also trust DICE not to make the same mistake as Crytek, but who knows aye, new engine, plenty of possibilities.

latency is really all that matters, you don't need that much bandwidth.

4g has pretty enormous throughput but the latency still isn't fantastic. 3g on my phone pings around 100. even 3g probably has enough bandwidth to stream smooth, it's just the latency that will ruin it.

orly ? Try downloading a 1920*1080 image. Now try downloading 60 of them in a second.

1920 pixels * 1080 pixels * 3 bytes (24-bit per pixel) * 30 frames / 1 second = 186,624,000 bytes/second

186,624,000 bytes * 8 bits = 1,492,992,000 bits per second or just shy of 1.5 gigabit per second internet bandwidth required.

I doubt any residency has pipe that phat. The only reasonable way to achieve it is through video compression which causes more latency.

30fps is all you need to be playable. 60 fps would be 3.0 gbps.

are you kidding? for fps, anything below 60 is unacceptable (multiplayer at least)

and it's not just streaming one way, for cloud, you would have to upload the input while your were downloading the response.

Bah what do the AAA bighats know anyway? I say, Virtual boy is the way of the future! See the product flunked back then because it was simply too advanced for tis time but now, if Nintendo reboots it and redesigns the ergonomics a bit, it will be the best gaming platform ever.

The first game that will be ported to it will be DNF because it will be the only one capable of utilizing the platform at 100% :D

all this is just propaganda to market their title .. consoles are where the money's at. look at the sales figures, it makes no sense to develop for pc if you have dollar counting investors sitting behind you. if you can just cross compile it for pc and sell another tens of thousand copies, good, but not worth much additional dev time

DICE remains pretty much the only company at this point still following through on backing the PC 100%. You could tell Crytek was a little fishy since all their gameplay stuff that I saw prior to launch was for the x360. BFBC2 is a great example of DICE's approach. They made a great PC FPS, and it happened to translate into a decent Console FPS, but you can still tell they put the most care into the PC version by the way it plays.

CoD games are clearly Console games since they are designed with small narrow corridors that require minimal movement since precision is near impossible with a controller. BC2 was basically the opposite with large sprawling maps that also had smaller narrower areas built into them. As another comparison BC2 was shameless about promoting the fact that it supported Dedicated Servers since that's what the community wanted and was accustomed to.

DICE understands the hardcore gaming market. They know that to develop the most well-respected and beloved game and garner a solid fansbase you need to address the top tier players. Blizzard to a degree knew this and has kind of strayed resulting in a massive exodus from WoW. You can't design a great game around the lowest common denominator and expect people across the board to love it.

Disagree with that coment. You forget Tripwire interactive that have made the Fantastic Red Orchesta: Ostfront 41-45 and even better Killing floor, and with the new RO being released soon.

Good to see DICE are consentrating on the pc verison though. Chance of me getting it though is low as looking more forward to RO2.

Diablo 1 and Starcraft are on consoles, meanwhile nearly all of Valve's games are on console. What is your point?

Its amazing there are still some that after ~10 years of lies and selling us crap ported from console now they will somehow revert to PC development with BF3 and make console gamers spent 1000$+ to play it.

It's because the game-play was too amazing for our feeble minds :D
But now that we have trained for decades we may finally be ready to submit to its awesomeness

Battlefield 3 will sell well but it's not going to change anything.
