Yeah, it's real funny when some don't remember the difference besides the complaints:

Windows 2000
-lower system requirements
-simpler interface
-no product activation

Win98
From memory actually ran from a DOS platform.

HOWEVER:

XP
-Can use themes without the performance hit found with win2k
-Has more bells and whistles like movie maker, built in cd writer support, Firewall, Remote Desktop Connection, Fast User Switching, built in ZIP compression support, NTFS file system conversion from Fat 16 and Fat 32, etc
-Has the System Restore feature (enough said)
-Windows Product Activation (not really a plus LOL)
-etc
All these added features in XP that win98/win2k didn't have. Having said that, these were tangible reason to upgrade to XP over win2000 and Win98. Also developers were coding for DX9 for none dos platform so if you wanted the latest games you had to get XP or at least Win2k (from memory).

ok so 2000 updates to 9.0c, but the other OS's cant. i DID ask for peoples knowledge on that, as i wasnt sure.

I've been doing these upgrades since DOS, and EVERY TIME people have the same arguments that its slower, needs more ram, program X doesnt work now, program Y wont work on the old OS...

its getting ridiculous. Its always been this way.

I think people are making a bigger deal out of the win2k/win98 upgrade to XP complaints then needed (mountain vs mole hill). We certainly have forgotten how bad win98 was :laugh:. I too recall that era and from what I remember I don't recall the same amount of negative press from XP as I've seen from Vista. But this is whole subject is getting off topic to the OP. Lets stay on track
