Did I just get a HD6950 with a revised PCB board?

OK, first off, I can't just plug it in and see if it flashes, because I don't have a desktop as I'm about to build my own rig for the first time and I don't have time until tomorrow night or Saturday morning.

But I did take a picture of the sticker on the side of the box, it says v1.1. I ordered this yesterday only in the UK. The supplier also got their stock off XFX yesterday as well (they ordered their stock on Mon). So this is a late batch.

I'd be devasted if it turns out I can't flash it.

Take cooling apart from the card and make some pictures if you have non modable card.
Probably if you see a little switch near crossfire link, your card is mod-ready.

the switch has nothing to do with the mod. it's simply a convenience feature just like some motherboards have a dual bios

I can't right now, it'd would have to wait until I got home. I can't just take it apart at work.

switch is on all HD6900 series, the previous batch AFAIK had some component on the PCB which wasnt supposed to be there, the component AMD meant to use was short in supplies.

This is not promising for people who ordered recently if revised cards are showing up at retail already.

Well, apparently, this v1.1 has already been showing up at the end of December.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=2135978

There's a couple of guys on there who says they have the v1.1 this is was like 28th of December. I tracked the posts of the member "baud" who seemed to have flashed his XFX v1.1 (same model as me) OK in the end.

Although I still unsure of the difference between v1.0 or v1.1, I'm not so worried anymore. My RAM sticks will arrive tomorrow. Then I can start building my system tomorrow when I get home, yay.

I wouldn't worry about it... I have 2 XFX 6950's sucessfully unlocked and running 900/1400 auto fan. One is a V1.0 and the other is a V1.1 didn't notice it until this thread.

Sorry about the crap quality photo but my Nikon battery was dead had to use my phone cam:

These were purchased at the exact same time from my local Microcenter.

Thanks to all that made this flash/mod possible! I successfully flashed two XFX 6950's with XFX 6970 BIOS :D Torture tested them for 3 days now, super stable even @900/1400 "like a rock"

I was really on the fence about 2 GTX 580's and 2 HD6970's for my 3x 30" 3007's and this mod made my decision a bit easier... with the money saved I may just grab a 3rd 6950 and unlock ;)

Edit:
Only draw back for now is that I'm running them @ 16x 8x otherwise top card cooks at about 96c

Idle temps: 37-38c top and 34-35c bottom card
Load temps: 90-92c top and 88-90c bottom card

Ambient temps between 20 and 23c

How to enable additional shaders on Radeon HD 695...

I've been running the most taxing games I own (Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Metro 2033, BFBC2, Splinter Cell Conviction mainly... along with some others) all on auto fan no problems at all

I've benched @950/1450 (current CCC limit) with fan @42% and played quite a bit of crysis too.

Now that I believe they are truly stable I manually set fan to 50% and top card has yet to go over 76c usually @72-76c and bottom card usually @ 71-74c

Hmm, that is interesting. I am planning on picking up at least one, if not two new vid cards in about a month or so, and will possibly be looking at the 6950's as my purchase. Now I have to wonder what the possibilities will be at flashing these to the 6970's at that time.

Trying to decide on which to actually end up getting, the last gen of 5870's or the newer gen 6850's and attempt the flash?
