honestly, most people are now getting tricked into buying dx11 card as soon as possible just because they have dx11 support. the same mistake they made on buying dx10 cards at launch. they never learn.

from my understanding the only big advantage dx11 has against dx10 is the hardware tesselation support. and even that is not going to be too noticeable while playing the games.

the player would be too busy playing the game than just looking around and focus on the tessellation effects anyway.

maybe slightly better shadows. the difference will not be like night and day for sure.

I own a 9800gtx+ and will keep it as long as i can play games with it. DX11 wont affect me.

DX9 and DX10 never did anything either :p ...I don't expect DX11 to be instant, but it sounds promising from articles and comparisons I've read from early on games that support it. I don't plan on replacing my GTX260 till it can't keep up, and hopefully by then it'll be promsing. I think tesselation will be a nice touch to the small things that couldn't be fixed without it. If DX11 adds more to the game, like some of my DX10 games I enjoyed, I have no complaints. Everyone will have an opinion, personally I'll wait till I need to upgrade, and well, when I do...obviously stepping up will probably be a DX11 card, just like a DX10 card of today, doesn't make em' useless because of an API not used as much as we want.

You do know that eventually you'll have to get a card that supports DX11 when your current one goes out, unless you want to pay a gross amount to find old hardware, right? It's just another phase of progression: DirectX 9 was the norm before 10(10 didn't take off obviously), now 11 is coming into play. I don't recall every rendering program or game immediately transferring to 9 when it was released, so the same will be true for DX11 and every one to follow. Also, some gamers do actually take the time to look around at all the eye candies. I know I do.

DX9 only stayed around so long due to the adoption rate of XP and the hardware pricing. DX10 failed due to consoles and lack of userbase. With all the Win7 transition that MS is promoting it will be the new XP, but like XP will take a couple years to really get popular. MS is doign the right thing for the users by forcing better drivers, and allowing DX11 for Vista, and also alot of the secuity software for free that is coming down.

Yeah DX10 was a joke. More of a scheme M$ did to make gamers migrate to Vista. Anything DX10 was capable, DX9 was capapable as well. Only dx9 was faster (Crysis). Somethings up with Farcry 2 though.

We have to wait for DX11 though, too early to tell.\

In anycase, yeah.. DX11 is just technically an extended DX 10.1

Ok, I'm sorry but this concept is insane. People are buying the 5xxx series because they perform very well. This is the same reason people bought the G80s, they offered much better performance than anything else at the time. DX 11 is a nice feature to have, but very few people are buying for that reason only. No one is being tricked into buying anything. On top of that a lot of the people buying highend cards and signing up for tech forums are never satisfied in that regard, they buy the latest and greatest when the latest and greatest is available, again no one is being fooled into doing anything they don't want or need. Sure they could play any up coming game on an older card, but they don't want to. Nobody here is going "oh shit I won't be able to play these new games without a $400 DX11 card".

LOL I'm going to be tricked into buying something that I wanted to buy even before DX11 was announced. A single GPU that is more powerful than a GTX295 and uses less power. This way while I'm "busy" playing my games (fallout 3 was the most engaging game of the century. There was no time to take in the scenery or character detail) and enjoying it because everything looks freaking cool I'll also be killing DX11 benchmarks when I'm not so "busy" playing games.

You own a 9800gtx+ and you probably game mostly on a console/play valve games/play WoW.

Actually I think you'll find some people go for the first of a new DX generation (HD5870...8800GTX) because of their vast performance in any older titles.

the 8800GTX tore thru DX9 titles apon release, even though it failed miserably in crysis, and now the 5870 is tearing though just about any game you can throw at it.

DX11 support is a nifty bonus IMO, 95% of why I buy a card will be based purely on sheer performance, features/bundle/warranty come second to that.

DX10 brought huge performance gains over DX9. I have a DX10 card but I still use DX9 (Windows XP). Doesn't bother me a bit.

hmm.. ok. so he was reffering to a dx11 card and not the api.. well 5xxx are good not because its just dx11.. its well, because, its fast.. and price is just exact for its speed. Targetted for those waiting for an upgrade, for those who just want the fastest, and for those bench junkies.. Its just the way things go.. and you wont be able to bend time space by stating something that would "save them from being tricked".

I can prove it to you. I can actually play with Phyisx on High, 2xAA and highest settings at 1600*1200 res smoothly. and NO I DONT OWN A CONSOLE. i repeat, NO I DONT OWN A CONSOLE.

I think u gonna die if i show u how many games i can actually maxed out with it. dont u?

Personal comment: and i can run batman with max graphics at 1920x1080 on my radeon 4200 onboard in my media PC. it runs, however it runs very slowly.
It is VERY common for someone to come onto TPU and say "my card can run this game maxed out FLAWLESSLY" without any proof or backing, while we have direct experience showing that its impossible.

If you want people to beleive your claims that a 2 generation old card can max out current titles - provide proof. resorting to insults when someone challenges you is a fast road to infractions and a ban.

Hi Mussels. I pologize to you if i get nervous like that. But as you can see, he is trying to incite an argument.

He thinks 9800gtx+ is slow card that cant play Batman on high settings!!!!

Until now I have been able to play MOST if not ALL the recent titles on high settings at high resolution with that card.

I think DX11 is going to be way more successful than DX10, mainly because Win7 will be popular, unlike Vista. Also, the 5xxx series offers seriously good performance at a reasonable price. There are DX11 titles being developed already and some of the DX11 demos look awesome already.

Put all this together and I think DX11 will be a winner. :rockout:

Mussels: just because they are recent titles, it doesnt make them demanding automatically.

Batman is never a demanding game. red faction isnt, etc...

Batman isnt demanding until u turn on the physix on High. and even then its still playable.

And just because a card is old or outdated, it doesnt make it slow automatically.

also i have an overclocked 9800gtx+. overclocked to 810mhz core, 1950mhz shader and 1350mhz memory. plus c2d e4500 at 2.95ghz and 3GB ddr2 ram.

I can play recent titles on high settings fine with that computer. no reason to lie.

and as i said, we wont be seeing any demanding games like Crysis in near future as long as we have these old consoles.

So a 9800gtx+ would be quiet enough to play MOST if not ALL games on high settings plus high res for the future UNTIL new consoles arrive.

i will bet on that projection.

So how did people got tricked into buying a DX10 card before?
The 8800GTX/Ultra OCed on water still kicks your 9800GTX+ in the nuts.
This just shows hhow much of a beast the G80 was, it takes the 9800GTX+ aka GTS 250 two generations later to take on it.

Tessellation actually changes the way the game is rendered, so you don't need to pay much attention to notice the difference.

Binge: Guess what, i am now downloading the Batman Demo for my new laptop so i can play it on my laptop and show you how it CAN play on my laptop.

My laptop has c2d 2.20ghz cpu, 4gb ram, 500gb hd and a GT230 1GB video card.
