Nice. Makes you wonder why AMD held back its potential with a restrictive BIOS which must have reduced sales. Bit silly in my book.

What kind of overclock do you get now?

Stock: 1050 core 500 HBM
Without adding core voltage, 66% fan speed: 1090 core 535 HBM. ~300pts more in FSE
Without adding core voltage, raising fan speed to 100%: 1100 core 540 HBM. 350~360 more pts in FSE
Adding 72mV core with Trixx, 100% fan speed: 1190 core, 550HBM. ~900 more pts in FSE.(First time get FSE over 8000 without turning off Tessellation)

Don't get your hope high. Any core over 1150 will crash in valley ranging from scene 14 to 17. Valley is really intensive.

And 1190 just crashed again on FSE looping 4th loop. Looks like this is the limit.

ALPHA COOL (will get a block from them for my 290 VaporX after Zen Launches

EK, Heatkiller, Aquacomputer are probably better choices since they are full coverage. Alphacool blocks arent full coverage. Just the GPU, with the heatsink plate they have that covers everything else, no water is actually flowing over anything but GPU die.

I know that when i was looking at blocks, EK blocks had the best VRM cooling than the others.

I haven't done FSE. Just FS. And it does want to let me get away with more than Valley. But what's kinda strange is with my card Valley and Heaven seem pretty equal stress wise. I hear Valley is the worst for some folks. It just doesn't seem to be so bad on my card. Whatever I can run with Heaven I can run with Valley, and vice versa.

Coincidentally I'm having my best benchmark day ever too. It's nice and cool in my house this morning. I'm up to 1218MHz core on my 280X. And with the fans(x2) @ 100% I'm getting 4.9GHz bench stable out of my 3570K. Heaven and Valley scores are going up and up with every run. HO YEAH!! Today's the day!!!! :rockout:

none of the others make a block for my VaporX 290

So I just came across this thread, and thought that I would share my experience with this card and maybe get some advice/insight.

First here are my computer specs: i5 4670K 4.5 ghz w/Hydro H110i GT cooler , Dual Sapphire R9 Fury Xs CF, ASUS Hero Maximus VII motherboard, and 32gb DDR3, sitting in a Corsair Obsidian 750D w/Corsair 1000w PSU. Triple 1440p 144hz Freesync 27" monitors.

Judging from the results that you guys are getting, I must have hit the silicone lottery with my main card. Using MSI Afterburner, I can hold a steady 1175mhz and a memory clock of 600. Locking my fan speed at 70% with only one card running, my temps never go above 44c. With both cards running, 48c was the highest that I observed. I run the core voltage at +34 and the available power at +50. My lower temps must be due to the cooling capacity of my case.

I only run sim racing, but with from the stock clock to my max stable OC of 1175, I am seeing a 15% increase in frame rate. I was running an MSI R9 390x prior, and it was the top scoring 390x on user benchmark. I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to do what you guys are doing with the bios and such, I just mainly play whack-a-mole until things start to fall in place. So there is no science in my settings, it's all just chance.

Now, onto my problem. My second card isn't reading a GPU load in Afterburner. GPU1 is showing 100%, but the GPU2 is just having these little tiny spikes to 15-20% and then back to zero. Any ideas on this would be appreciated!

Sweet card you have :) , +34 mV for 1175/600 is stonking IMO. Any chance of registers dump via AIDA64 to show VID when card at stock? view this video.

No idea on why GPU2 is showing low usage, even though had a few cards never done CF.

A LN2 bench on a Fury revealed the HBM is capable of running up to 1000MHz, and a core of over 1400MHz.

So yes, it needs proper cooling.

That seems the only way these days - LN2 for proper over clocks. Anything else fails on voltage ripple and heat. Maxwell and now Pascal seem to be the same, even on water todays gfx cards don't go too far. Sad times.

If you wrap up a proper waterblock + rads for that GPU, a strong OC should be possible. Water is always better then air. The single AIO is just enough to cool it at stock speeds. Those VRM's need a beefy contact as well to carry the heat away by looking at Infrared pics.

I finally decided to give the new Sapphire Trixx a test run and see how far my FuryX can go. So I added the vcore all the way the the max +72mV. Set the core clock to 1200 and hit apply. System crashed during first test of Fire Strike Extreme, So I raised the fan speed to 100%(And WOW these gentle typhoon fans are crazy at full speed). Lowered the GPU to 1150. Sadly it still crashed on me during Fire Strike looping. After some testing it seems 1125 is the max for mine FuryX. In terms of HBM I can get as high as 575 rock solid. All this is achieved using a custom fan profile from Trixx. Have to keep the GPU near 65C to get the overclock stable.

In terms of performance gain, my stock FuryX with 4.2GHz 5820K scored 7390 in FSE. Raising up both GPU and HBM clock to 1125/550 will get the score to 7750. So less than 100MHz GPU overclock and 50MHz of HBM overclock gave me a mere 4.8% increase in performance. Really disappointing.

Another thing I noticed is when FuryX gets seriously hot after overclocking. So much for the unlocked voltage control.
I got you with my R9 390 x mm look ..

with that thinking, wouldn't every card have the same potential (yes)? :pimp:

It's how the silicon works bub.

I know, right. And AMD sucks ass buy Nvidia! GO team Go, thanks for the input.

and my following post:
I think everyone has moved to OCN to have legit conversations on AMD. Tpu, hard, are full of nothing but fan boys. If you haven't realized, you can't open a thread with "AMD" in the title without it instantly being high jacked. See you over there?
