So I read somewhere that windows 10 will be removing disk clean up future form windows 10 in the next update I think it's completely BS I do not have the link for it from what I read. But does it really work and really help your PC run good? Are there any other ways clean up that work you can download? I use it every time there is a windows update.

I’m not at my PC right now but I can say in the current preview build disk cleanup still exists. Likewise there is another option (including disk cleanup) to automatically clean temp and other files already part of the current release build. And as for how effective it is, like anything it’s only effective in regards to how much shit you have on your PC.

That’s said I do use it routinely to clean old windows update and temp files

I haven't been putting much on my PC I've been using consoles more for gaming but there still games I play on my PC ifs there's a games I know I don't play anymore I delete it. I'm just not in the mood to upgrade to a bigger HDD for storage. It's been off for weeks and mostly turn it on to keep it up to date.

I will tell you right now it is one of Microsoft oldest features in Windows so yes it works it's more of a kid's glove approach compared to certain other sweeping utilities. There are certain sweeping utilities that will get you in a world of trouble so you may want to do a system restore backup before using any other sweeping utility

You might as well sell it at this point.

I've been looking and I just saw my Norton program has a disk clean up. Like I said I don't use my PC much anymore. But I don't want to sell it that's why I've been keeping it clems from games and other programs that take up so much space

You might as well sell it at this point by the way you may have to get a bigger hard drive for your console too

They won't remove it. They just added "Free Up Space Now" (settings -> system -> storage) since Spring Creators Update (1803) which can be turned on/off anytime. Good old right-click on disc c is still there and will be.

look for cleanmgr.exe in the \Windows\System32\ folder if you want to run the classic disk cleanup tool in Win10. run it with Admin rights to also allow running Windows Update cleanup

I'll second that about being careful with them. In particular, I was offered such a utility, registry cleaner, at a discount a few years ago (uniblue or something) as a partner program to my Hard Disc Manager. Supposedly had a good name and was promoted by a decent source, for a tenner.

Piece of garbage.

Every single time I ran it, it broke something in Outlook and sometimes other niggles. I didn't bother trying it out for more than a couple of days before nuking it from my system, permanently. There was no "right" way to use this program, I tell you.

I used that for many yrs already, but lately it's just gotten more bloatware than anything else. Subsequently I don't use it anymore. Crap like "monitoring" etc, useless features imo. & it's installer by default still wants you to put on Google's overratted chrome browser on your system.
As if we need more spyware invading our already over spied lives...

Please, give me a break!

Is there an alternative to CCleaner you can recommend, then? Though I feel I must mention that monitoring can be easily disabled in the options, and most installers of anything also come with plenty of unwanted "offers". I've learned long ago to pay more attention than just clicking on yes, yes, yes, next, ok, next, etc...

Yes, I get your point, my post was more geared towards users who aren't as tech savvy as most of us on here. I mean they see some app that claims to clean up there system & just click it all until it actually installs.

That can break systems if you choose the wrong options. Some need to be really careful with BB.

Unless you code the app yourself or can reverse engineer it, no one can be sure that there isn't spyware lurking somewhere inside of it.
I'm not paranoid, just realistic about today's digital world & the ever incresing surveilance everyone is sucked in to.

no warranty expressed or implied, the same could be said for most cleaners. A page out of your book if you let me.

That's pretty much the default disclaimer from software devs since software was written. :)
