Disney Shuts Down LucasArts, Cancels Star Wars 1313 And Star Wars: First Assault

If you look at disney you should have seen this coming

They fucked up:

Disney channel
Stop making cartoon Disney movies
Paved the way for bieber lovers

now they have killed a good developer for the older generation.

Its getting as bad as cartoon network..

Sometimes I do not want to live on this planet anymore.

I wonder if George Lucas cashing in all of his Disney stock a little while back had to do with this development? I'm pretty sure he'd want LucasArts to remain in existence just the way it was.

Also. X-Wing/Tie-Fighter needs a new game. That shit was amazing. We need it. For extreme justice.

I don't know about that. I mean it's only the game studio that was shut down, and Star Wars games has always been hit or miss. And more misses than hits methinks..

The only reason I say so, is because Lucas appeared to be very loyal to his employees. He could have easily killed LucasArts and gone with a licensing scheme only on his own.

I mean the timing of him cashing in and the shutdown of LucasArts is sort of telling. Maybe his lawyer screwed up the contract and Disney is exploiting the fact that that contract may only refer to LucasFilm, Ltd.

I dunno, I'm tired. Star Wars is dead to me now anyway, the only thing I can hope for is a high-def transfer of the original trilogy without Greedo shooting first or Vader yelling no when throwing the emporer into the shaft.

Dark Forces was awesome though. Played the ever living f**k out of that game.

fans have remade the laserdisc version to actually do that already.

To be honest, 90% of Star Wars games were rubbish. Only Jedi Knight series were good (i still remember the Return of the Jedi one, running on modified Quake 3 engine) back around year 2000.

I also didn't like any of the new Star Wars movies. They feelt cheesy and like watching a Mexican soup opera series with uber special effects. Like Frick said, original series were groundbreaking on so many levels and i really liked the story and the whole happening along with special effects.
But the new ones just don't have any charm at all.

What I said was the old movies are just as cheesy as the new ones.

And the first statement I don't agree with at all. DF/Jedi Knight is good, then you have Pod Racer, Republic Commando, Knights of the Old Republic 1/2, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, Rouge Squadron. Empire at War was pretty decent as well. Yes most of the games a rubbish, but saying only Jedi Knight is good I don't agree with. BTW, the Quake 3 JK games were Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

Oh give me a break. For starters Disney channel was beloved by its target audience, and they occasionally still do make Cartoon Disney Movies (the Princes and the Frog?) but have offloaded that to Pixar, a company that does a fantastic job making the best animated movies in the industry. Also, Disney never "paved the way" for Justin Beiber, he was a rising star in Canada thanks to YouTube and an endorsement from Usher--who set him up with a record contract. In fact, the only thing he has done with Disney, is appear in a Christmas Parade performance in 2011 that they had.

You make it sound as though Disney destroys great companies, when in fact most companies thrive under them. Marvel and Pixar are doing pretty damn well. Disney wouldn't have allowed an atrocity like The Green Lantern to come out, and has time and time again said if they buy a company that is doing well, they would not screw with them. The fact is, LucasArts development team was not doing well, and hadn't been for quite some time. Most of the games that they actually developed were garbage, and usually just reskins of other better games (that AoE reskin, the MK reskin fighting game that sucked balls).

Most of the Star Wars games historically have been crap. The game you're talking about are the Jedi Knight games from 2002 and 2003 developed by Raven Software--running on the Quake 3: Team Arena engine.

As for the movies, I think people view the original series with rose tinted glasses and cast aside the newer ones as being cheesey and kid-friendly--while ignoring Ewoks--mostly due to nostalgia.

Knights of the Old Republic was/is/always will be the greatest star wars game of all time. Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy are really good as well. The force unleashed could have been so much more, but it's still an honorable mention.
