error: display driver atikmdag stopped responding (8.7 driver)
hello people I get this on task bar vith vista any body know anything about it computer stops responding as well

it means CCC has stopped working. no Video driver in essence. That would explain the monitor freezing as well.

I had issues myself with the 8.7CCC, went back to 8.6 the same day.

Also no offense intended, but these drivers now arent really being optimized for the X1900 series!

hi there thank you for tip I was to lazy to update my system but I have 3870 rams1200 gpu800 not over clocked yet I had same issue with older driver as wel why I went with 8.7

whenever i get this, is because of overheating. the 3870 fan speed is super low stock, so depending of your case, even at stock, it can overheat. nearly all ati card fan speed run too low.

download and use rivetuner, put the fan on fixed (60% and up), run a few game benches to see if it still freezes.

I had this when I went to Vista, neither 8.6 nor 8.7 fixed the problem. However 8.7 BETA did. The atikmdag is a later version in the 8.7 BETAs (so are the display drivers believe it or not).
