Unless you need a 1.2 qualified cable or something more than 3 meters, yeah, pretty much any. The signal is digital and not going to make a difference.

Any as others but some can be made better like the casing to the cable, i cannot recommend any although I have had some really good Amazon HDMI cables in the past but as i understand it can depend on the supplier they are using at the time.

True but badly made casing can made real problems over time. But should be able to get one cheap.

Just don't spend $50 on a digital cable like some idiots do.

Or $10,500:

I spent like 30 quid over the DP to Mini DP my monitor came with. Reason was on boot it would freak out and drop my 144 refresh. Trust me the cable made no difference

To be fair, cable durability is a thing.

I knocked my monitor to the floor once and sheared a cheap display port cables head clean off. Needless to say, it no longer worked. Monitor was ok though.

I'm embarrassed to admit, this may have happened just this weekend.

I don't recommend doing that, though.

Yes some are like a soft rubber like plastic which allows the connector to move.

So some one already suggest a good quality one already.

I got one at my local store (4th dimension computers in Olympia, WA) that seems built well. However, it's a china-generic special, saying only "DP Cable 1.2" on the baggie. No idea where to get it.

Unlike HDMI, DisplayPort cables have quality standards they have to meet: 3m for passive, 33m for active. I'd just buy the cheapest cable for the length you need that has decent reviews (good quality assurance) and is latching (so it can't fall out).

Unlike HDMI, DisplayPort cables have quality standards they have to meet: 3m for passive, 33m for active. I'd just buy Amazon Basic cables, personally. That said, I just got a 15' USB cable and it does not fit snuggly. Maybe should look elsewhere. Meh, DisplayPort has a latch system on it...I'd just make sure to get one with latches and of appropriate length. Should be good enough.

HDMI cables have length requirements too, and actually, that's the only place they excel way above DisplayPort: They have to maintain full bandwidth for way longer.

HDMI has no length standards. HDMI loses bandwidth the longer the cable.

While one could technically make a passive DisplayPort cable longer than 3m, you're not guaranteed to get maximum bandwidth through it.

HDMI has no length standards. HDMI loses bandwidth the longer the cable.

You're right that it has no length standards, but to be cert'd, an HDMI cable must provide full bandwidth at whatever length it is made to.

In practice, you can get much longer passive hdmi cables than displayport. I know because I use one... a 10m cable

HDMI can't even move as much data over a 3m cable as DisplayPort so already comparing apples to oranges. On top of that, what did I just say about bandwidth over length? I know you're not using full HDMI bandwidth over that distance because you'd be getting packet loss. How much data needs to transfer determines the clock rate. The higher the clock rate, the more likely there is to be packet loss no matter the length. The longer the cable, the more likely packets will get corrupted. Because HDMI is not a standard designed to tolerate any packet loss, it doesn't take many for the signal to drop.

There are HDMI cables that overcome these problems by having built in repeaters. Even in that scenario, the bandwidth is significantly lower than active DisplayPort at the same distance.

Not sure why we're even talking about this. Topic is DisplayPort.

The higher the clock rate, the more likely there is to be packet loss no matter the length. The longer the cable, the more likely it is to happen. Because HDMI (because it's still basically DVI) is not a standard designed to tolerate any packet loss, it doesn't take many for the signal to drop.

I didn't say anything about bandwidth. I was just commenting on the cert process. Supporting evidence courtesy wikipedia that it must maintain full bandwidth:

HDMI can sustain full bandwidth for up to 10 meters of cable length and there are certification programs to ensure this. While DisplayPort cables don't ensure full bandwidth beyond 3 meters.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

I do agree Displayport is a superior standard from every other perspective... but I am using pretty high bandwidth and no, no packet loss. I'm running 1440p 8bpp 72Hz. I'm actually looking at switching to an active display port cable, but only so I can use 10bpp in my photoshop editing, something my LCD supports natively.

Not sure why we're even talking about this. Topic is DisplayPort.

Correct, I'll end the tangent here.

This. Don't fall for the sub-categories/bandwidth type story, ignore it entirely. You want to focus on quality, i'd again say 'this'. It really won't make a difference.

If math correct: 6,370,099,200 bits per second. 8.16 Gb/s is the maximum payload for HDMI 1.4 (340 MHz pixel clock frequency). You are 22% from saturating it. HDMI 2.0 has a 600 MHz pixel clock frequency.

I didn't say I was fully saturating it, just wanted to say I was hardly a low bandwidth user. And comment on the cert process. But as you noted, this isn't really the place for it, so let's cut it here.
