Display Port vs HDMI?

Hey folks,

I just added a gaming monitor to my setup: So i have two 4k monitors and one gaming monitor.
All three monitors are 27 inches. The 4k are LG and the other one is Dell.

I have one of the LG monitors on display port and one on HDMI and i noticed the monitor on HDMI looks different.
Starting with the wallpaper, it seems a lot more "backlit" compared to the one on display port?
These two monitors are side by side so it's really noticeable.

Wondering if this is natural or if it's a cheap hdmi issue?

If the monitor your using with HDMI has the option in its OSD menu check to see what HDMI Black Level is set to and if it has the option try setting it to low.

It could very well just be a difference in the monitors themselves. Without calibration, even the same model of monitor(especially if they weren't purchased at the same time) can look different.

As newtekie1 said, need model numbers. The version number the model supports is very important. A lot of monitors out there have DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 where HDMI 2.0 is better.

Also, if this HDMI monitor is actually a TV, make sure all the TV features are disabled via the on-screen menu. TVs like to have picture quality effects enabled on HDMI to make them stand out in show rooms.

HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2

What graphics card do you have? How many DisplayPort and HDMI ports does it have?

Edit: Is it possible to connect both LG monitors to the graphics card via DisplayPort and connect the Dell via HDMI?

Maybe plug both panels in via HDMI then so they behave the same?

There's a lot of options in Menu -> Picture to look at including:

Picture Mode:
FPS Game 1
FPS Game 2
RTS Game
Custom (Game)

Picture Adjust:
SUPER RESOLUTION+ (turn that OFF most likely)
Black Level (dunno which would be better here but could easily be causing the issue)
HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color (turn ON if it isn't for 4K 60 Hz)

Game Adjust:
pretty much all settings here


FYI, FreeSync (not that you're using it) will only work on DisplayPort
