I've been having a strange problem lately. My display would just turn off for no reason after the computer's been on for a few hours. VPU recoverer doesn't help like it usually does. This happens with both of my X1950 PROs, a rev2 Sapphire and a HIS ICEQ with the stock Sapphire cooler. They're not overheating or anything. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and it helped partially, it lasts alot longer before turning off, but still does it. Everything else still works though, music still plays, the programs still run, but there's no display. What could it be?

ATI drivers can be a pain...Use add/remove programs and remove ATI DRivers and the "ATI Removal Tool". Defrag Hdd and reload drivers from website.

This usually solves most ATI driver issues.

If problem continues it could be a driver conflict (if using a soundcard) or a monitor setting issue (or ??).

I had this happen to me the other day during a rough session of vanguard, and my ambient temps were pretty high. I assume it was my power supply overheating/not being able to feed my card properly..

Well I'm pretty damn sure it's not the PSU. It ran these 2 cards in crossfire no problem, but crossfire turned out to be buggy so I switched back to one. I've already reinstalled the drivers and even run driver cleaner.net, no luck. I'll try defragmenting later, my disk is really badly fragmented.

I also had a similar problem, i own a x1950pro and a 19" wide lcd, the monitor would go blank at random, did not matter if i was playing, watching a movie, etc. turned out to be that my lcd des not like 75 hertz refresh, the moment i switched to 60 hertz the problem went away, you should try another refresh setting.

That's not it, mine only supports 60 hz according to the monitor. I can force 75 and it works, but I keep it at 60 usually. I might be getting a new monitor soon so hopefully that'll fix it.

happens to me as well, and it's extremely infuriating....

Nothing like getting into CoH, having a good session, then having the display turn off... anyone know any fixes, cos it's happened to me with 8.2, 8.3, and 8.3 hotfix...

Gecube HD3870 X-Turbo III OC edition.

Damn, I reverted to the 8.2s Didnt know they had an 8.3 hotfix. Mine does it on my Acer 19". It has the 60HZ refresh, and I dont force 75 on it cause it gives me all kinds of messed up screen looks.

I had the problem untill I replaced my DVI cable with a better quality DVI cable. The problem seems to be using a single link DVI cable. Check to see if that's what you have (there will be a couple rows of pins missing in the middle). You'll want to look for a DVI dual link cable.

just to be sure, what I have is the 2nd picture (with no missing pins) - is this the one I need? im tired of having to reboot mid-game. also, im using a VGA converter thing

I read the initial post and thaght you were using a VGA to DVI converter...they do go bad alot...try there first as they are really cheap!

I've tried two different VGA-DVI converters. one that came w/ my 1950GT and one that came with this brand new 3870. I dont think thats the problem...though it could be the cable itself I suppose. My lockup only happens during intense graphic rendering, IE: CoD4 after 25 mins

You need to stop using the converters all together.

damn. thats a lot of ATI problems.

The obvious one as always is power - you cant make assumptions that 'oh it ran X fine before i got Y' because it can draw power in different ways - as an example the new card might take less from the PCI-E slot and more from the external lead, or vice versa.

so many of you are having this problem its hard to tell the cause... some of you are on DVI and some on VGA (With adaptor) - can you swap? just try the other cable for a while and see if it happens.

If it only happens in 3D use, that could be overheating or PSU as well -the PSU may build up heat over half an hour, to the point its no longer supplying enough to the card.

think I figured it out for me. I had my fan set on 70%...so during intense loads I think it was over heating. hah dang guess I deserve it for being so dumb
