Does DP cables 1.2 still have problem with 20pin connected?

"Problem is that pin 20 is meant to feed 3,3v to an active adapter. Some cable manufactures decided to fully pin all their cables.
It can feed back into your GPU if your monitor has an active pin 20 (which alot have)"

I am going to buy DP cable on Amazon and I don`t know do I need to watch out for this problem...

personally I had never heard of this as an issue, i bought and used a couple with no prior knowledge and no bad effects.

if the 3.3V is meant to be there its meant to be dealt with correctly by both ends appropriate hardware in my mind or the ieeee (institute of electrical and electronic standards) would'nt allow its sale in the uk and EU.

I think your fine but thats not KNOw unfortunately.

I've never heard of that particular issue either.

FYI, I posted a question about DP standards here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...-1-4-for-freesync-75hz-at-3440-x-1440.239663/

There's a link in there to displayport.org with a list of "certified" cables. It's like the wild west, there are a ton of cables out there that may or may not work depending on what specifics you're looking for (refresh rate at a specific resolution, for example).

I heard about that couple of times, don`t know how serious it is.

For example Delock on their page has in specification a line that mentions is cable 20pin connected or not:

http://www.delock.de/produkte/908_Displayport/82772/merkmale.html

Unfortunatly this cable has 90% negative reviews on Amazon.

For some reason I can`t choose some cables because shipping is not available to my country.

Brand that has shipping to my country (as far as I know):

KabelDirect, Amazon basics, Startech, Delock

Recommendation? Is Startech good?

Startech is good. Amazon basics usually works.

Re: 3.3v, that pin likely only has power if there is, in fact, an active adapter at the end of it. You'd always want that 20-pin connected even if it is a passive adapter--it just wouldn't use it.

I Know about this issue and it shouldn't be an issue unless you need all parts of the MOBO to do a Power drain in which case you can just unplug it for that. But having said that I wouldn't get a unnamed cable from a sketchy source. I think Amazon Basics would be safe enough and they take returns with out too many issues.

Here's @W1zzard 's suggestion from that thread I linked above ;)

In my experience rated version doesn't matter as much as quality of the cable itself. I've seen sporadic black screens with cheaper cables, my solution was just to buy a bunch, keep the best one and return the other ones.

Oh and these are supposedly good http://www.club-3d.com/en/detail/2367/displayportt_1.4_hbr3_cable_male_-_male_4m_-13.12ft./

I think I`ll go with Startech. I asked them on LiveChat about 20pin and they told me:

"I am just looking at the pin out now and can see that the 20 pin is not connected"

That can be seen on pictures:confused:

Club3d too expensive, AmazonBasics has too much similar negative reviews (doesn`t work at higher resolution), Lindy too expensive
