I havn't had a chance to try another monitor, tried to get a loan of an HD one off of a friend however he doesn't have on.. :D

i think he meant try another DVI to VGA adaptor. one should have come with the card.

I wouldn't rule PSU outa the equation so quickly either, try another PSU just to make sure...

In my experience, its best to rule everything out 100% before buying new hardware

I'm using the corsair supply justnow, I was using a 500w micro ATX supply before this with the same problem. They both run fine without the GPU or with the 1650.

we know the problem is related to the card, now you just need to narrow it down.

is it the motherboard, is it the monitor, is it the DVI to VGA adaptor between the two, is it the wrong time of the month, did you forget the virgin sacrifice?

I think your board is only PCI-E 1.1 & that is the problem...

Lots of people have lots of problems with PCI-E 1.0(1) & ATI 5000 series cards i saw that more then once at AMD Game.com forum ...
You can search there http://forums.amd.com/game/categories.cfm?catid=260&forumid=11

It is your board that as an incapability with the 5000 series... maybe because of some 5000 series board maker like powercolors who knows??

Anyhow change your board for an PCI-E 2.0 & your problem will be solved

If you want to make sure get the card (5750) back to the store or any computer store & ask them to test the card for you if you don't have another computer to try it on , i am pretty sure that the 5750 is working fine

Hey Goodman, Thanks for the reply. I guessed this was the case. Looks like I'm not the only one with problems of the sort on this board.

I have a 5770 and a 5850 and both work Ok with a Gigabyte 945 gcm s2c (PCI-E 1.0) and both work Ok with an Abit IP35 Pro (PCI-E 1.1) and finally both work Ok with an Asus P5E (PCI-E 2.0).

I also tested both cards with an old CRT monitor (not HD) 1024x768 and a Viewsonic VG 1921 wm 1440x900, and a Samsung 6 series HDTV 1920x1080 and never have a problem.

I still think it's a Mobo compatibility issue, but to be sure, you should try the card in another Mobo.

Brilliant, If it's working with PCI-E 1.0 I should be able to give it a shot with an old board i've got laying around. WOW ! the Gigabyte 945 gcm s2c is availiable for £33 but I would need to check if it supports my other hardware.. lol

When you have the HD5750 in the computer, and you boot with the monitor connected to the onboard card, do you get a signal?

If so, it is more than likely an incompatibility between the motherboard and the card. The card, for whatever reason, is not tripping the motherboard's detection of dedicated cards, so it is not initializing the dedicated card and is instead using the onboard.

Now, running with the onboard, does the HD5750 show up in device manager?

Yes, there is a signal to the monitor in that scenario. When looking at the device manager it shows as Video Adaptor (VGA Compatable) Under Unknown devices. No other information is availiable.

Does anyone know where I could pick up one of these GA-945GCM-SC2 boards? Well more like order online.

Have you tried installing the ATi driver with Catalyst Control Center while using the onboard with the HD5750 connected?
