Depends what you want to do with it. Most cases there should be no difference I guess.

That's a PR image though, the normal bridge is good enough for 1440p/4k etc. too. There needs to be some testing done which bridge is better on what settings and how much. I expect the reviews to come soon.

Yes you need it, why would you get 1080 sli and not get the new bridge? New bridge equals more bandwidth

problem is that i pre-ordered 2 Strix 1080s and pretty sure the new sli bridge doesn't fit since those cards are big , so the good old stretching bridge would handle them nicely until asus supoort responds to me

I think the current HB bridge is designed for the reference cards and may not fit after market cards with larger PCB's.
Hopefully the Partners will be selling their own brand of HB bridge soon to suit their cards, if they aren't already.

No it's not, it's the exactly right thing for it. Atm you can't have enough performance for 4K at high settings.

The only time a hard bridge won't work is when the heatsink extends past the PCB. ASUS Strix doesn't have that problem, so you can use any bridge as long as both cards are ASUS Strix cards.

Yes indeed. The Big Pascal 1080 Ti when that comes out should be much better at 4K and hopefully handle it as well as cards handle 1080p now.
