4 pin are better as they are PWM. From Hard Forums
"The 4th wire is PWM or Pulse Width Modulation and it does a better job at reducing and controlling fan speed than reducing the voltage for a 3 pin fan.
There is no disadvantage, and depending on the board you can change certain fan headers to how they control the fan. Either by PWM, or voltage, but some can't control via voltage, so you would be at full speed. PWM fans are typically more expensive, but can work better at slower speeds."

also note that there are only 2 4 pin fan headers, you will need a molex to 4 pin or 3 pin adapter to get a third fan running

You can use 3 or 4 pin fans on a 4 pin. 4 pin fans allow finer control on the speeds. 3 pin fans also allow control on speeds.

Thank you! Is there a stuff like 4 pin splitter? or something like that? cause I dont really want to use molex.I want to control my front fans.

Can I use 4 pin fan splitter if there is some for it? also do you know any good 4 pin chasis fan? I have only one corsair af120 quiet edition but it seems like it does support only 3 pin i guess.

I mean I dont want my fans to work at %100 speed,i want it work like how cpu fans works.

with three fans in the front of your case you will have to get a 4pin 1 to 3 splitter and running the front three off the system fan header , bottom one.

leaving i assume the cpu and exhaust fan on the shop method you already have and are happy with.

Read your motherboard manual. It should tell you how many fan connector your motherboard have and what kind of connector they are.

As long as it's three or four pin it doesn't matter they will work fine because they are adaptable for either type. 4 is usually pwm

Ok your case either supports eithe 4 or 6 fans on the case built in controller.

Mine supports 6, my case includes a rheostat controller though, i keep my fans on lowest setting.

Your motherboard you will want to read the manual on how to configure your fan contols so the fans arent at highest speed at all times or reving up and down constantly...

Unfortunately the number of pins on the MpoBo tells you nothing. Nowadays most MoBo headers are 4 pin and capable of either DCV or PWM operation. This has not always been true. The Z87 lineup was a classic case:

For example Asus Maximus Formula came with the following 4 pin connectors

1 x CPU Fan connector(s)
1 x CPU OPT Fan connector(s)
3 x Chassis Fan connector(s)
3 x Optional Fan connector(s)

The MoBo manual described all the CPU and Chassis headers as 4 pin PWM / DCV... but the fact is, this while this feature was planned for Z87, it never quite made it inro production. While the CPU headers were PWM capable, we we could not get the CHA headers to function as PWM. We called contacted Asus by both email and phone and both responded that the CHA headers were not PWM, You can also find this clearly stated on various Asus Forum Z77 forum threads. In every Z87 board we have subsequently encountered to date, this has been the case. The H81 comes from the same era as the Z87. Because of this, I suspect that tho 4 pin, those headers will not be capable of PWM operation. On Z97, those 4 pin CHA headers were PWM capable.

I cannot control pc chasis fan that connected to mobo. Its showing up on AI Suite 3 and bios but they are seems like "unknown" device and no matter what I do is just useless.

I see, right now im controlling 2x top and 1x exhaust fan and they both controlled separately. There is only one free 3 pin cable or controller left,so one controller controls 3 fan then or not?

Can you guys please tell me why my fan #1 is running rpm like that?
