NVIDIA is full-cylinders when it comes to marketing two of its biggest technology initiatives since DirectX 10: CUDA and PhysX.

The technology may be at its infancy, but props go to the company for propagating GPGPU to the common man.
How do you look at the CUDA and PhysX incentive every current NVIDIA product carries, when in the market for a graphics card or motherboard?

I like the idea behind CUDA. I mean a centralized physx engine. While I don't mind other physx engines this one by far has always been my favorite.

I would really like to see the technology get bigger (more applications) than it is now, but then for it to grow, there should be more takers. CUDA unlocked the power of GPGPU to the grass-root consumer first, and other standards such as DXCS and OpenCL will be entering to cash in on the potential market CUDA created. Hence I look at it as an incentive.

I vote no my application and games don`t require it.

I mean right now, Multicore CPUs are gettin cheaper and cheaper and there will be 6 and 8 Core CPUs this year too.
So why should i add an extra Card for Physik ... to rest my upcomming Quadcore?

Physik (ex. Havok Engine) was always done by the CPU, and that extra Stuff on the screen ive seen in UT and Mirrors edge (with physiks) isnt very impressive.

Im not vs advancement in PC Games, but its a very early stage of development.

Nope it doesn't effect my buying decision what so ever, if there was an nVidia card of equal performance to an ATi card at the same price, I'd probably pick ATI, but I ignore CUDA and PhysX as my games run fine without it.

If the 9800GTX+ were at the same price point as my HD4850 was when I bought it in december I'd have gone for it, up to £10 more I'd have paid for the physx and CUDA stuff but I've seen the comparison of what physx does in mirror's edge and it's just a few rags attached to scaffolding, really not important.
If it becomes more prominent/ is actually reqiured then fine but if it remains NVIDIA only then it won't be required by any software (at least nothing wanting to make a large amount of cash)

If my board did both SLI and Crossfire, Physx and CUDA both would impact my decision. The GPU is way more powerful for physics calculations than a cpu. As it stands tho, to get the graphical power I wanted, ATI was the way to go. Physx and CUDA, while very nice, didn't hold enough sway for me to go with a single nv card over multiple ATI cards.

i voted no its supposed to do only graphics. i mean thats why i have a physx card. everyone thinks their pointless and i personally get tired of it simply because i dont understand why everyone thinks that. sure its a ppu sure everything is going to grfx cards but in all honesty ageia is owned by nvidia driver support for the ppu isnt going away any time soon and in all honesty i dont know about you guys but i guess im a little weird in that i want my processor to process my GPU to render grafx and my ppu to process physx. like you guys dont want your quad to process physx or grfx i dont want my things processing things it isnt supposed to.

The thing is a Quadcore based on X86 technology can never archieve the performance level of a GPU thats doing psysics for you. An X86 processor is menth for all day use of work, a videocard is just doing just one thing; rendering graphics. And therefore both Ati and Nvidia are pushing their possibilitys ahead of what their cards can do.

Its not just gaming, it's also menth for developers who develop games. The Quaddro-series, or the FireGL from AMD. Both come with the same technique, and if nvidia is buying a company to integrate their technology into their GPU's they really need to market it.

Otherwise, i dont see any difference in games and i dont need a videocard that is capable of doing psysx.

i think many specification in graphic card just for more sells , the new ATI 4xxx series make nvidia confused cuz nvidia sells are down , also im wait for dx11 and see what is the real improve which is make me got an nvidia card

I've never used CUDA for anything.
None of my game support PhysX either.

I bought my 8800GT because it was dirt cheap on boxing day lol

My answer: Dont care two hoots about PhysX gaming, but have chosen to switch from red to green due to CUDA and all the programming and application acceleration opportunities is brings.

I went with nvida after my x1950 cos ati seemed to be taking ages to bring out a dx10 at the time. Never looked back since

I like the effects that you get with physx in mirrors egde & cryostasis. It does show off what can be done and of course things will change very much in the future. Weather it will flop or not is not an issue for me as I pretty much build a new pc every 12-18 months. I'm all about playing the the latest games with all they have to offer.

Why is there no boob physix? Imo they should make a dedicated algo instructions to it. Physix would sell like hot buns (pun not intended).
