Do you guys lock your framerate ?

Limiting frame rate never stops tearing , you need v-sync for that.

???? The only reason I'm limiting frame-rates is to stay inside G-Sync's range. I'm using a G-Sync monitor (Ben-Q XL2420G)

then you'd not gain anything, but 8700K will be able to achieve same fps at lower cpu usage, which means lower temps and lower noise levels. 7700K, while slower than 8700K at 1080p in CPU tests, will still drive current gen/next gen GPUs fine.

You gotta recognize the CPU tests are done at lower resolution in CPU intensive scenes. They rarely represent more than a couple of scenes from a game where the CPU is really under heavy usage. If you have a g-sync monitor then you'd most likely not even notice those framerate dips, unless you can tell 130 fps from 140 fps.

8700K is packing so much power that you might have some fun with it recording your gameplay, it should be able to run games and record them at the same time without a hiccup. I've had so much fun with ansel while playing andromeda that I'm sure I'd sure enjoy recording my gameplay. There are so many epic things that you'd have to replay the game to see them again, but not if you record it.

When i said 99% GPU and 77% CPU it doesn't means that it's running constantly at that usage, like every GPU sometimes it hits 99% usage in some scenes but after 3/4 seconds the GPU usage goes back to 80%+ and the CPU to 50%+, the GPU temps never goes above 53c and i am using GPU clock offset +125 and mem clock offset +500.

The only thing i record is FIFA 2018

Just looking at the CPU usage % doesn't tell you whether you have a CPU/platform bottleneck or not. Biggest pointer is RAM throughput - you'll be seeing more usage with faster RAM. There are however far more small bottlenecks in the system that don't show as utilization.

I use G-Sync in full and windowed mode nuth else to really mess with my framerate.

How were your GPU and CPU loads with i7 6700K and the 1070 you had?

It doesn't really work like that , not for games, faster RAM is just faster RAM. Usage doesn't change , there's no reason why it would (in any meaningful manner) unless you are running scientific computations nonstop where faster memory means that resources might be available faster and you can run more instances at once on average.

I tried it just today, recorded some SW2. I can definitely get into that.

holy crap it uploaded in 360p even though I recorded it in high quality 60 fps. That looks terrible.

edit: now 1080p 60 fps is available, that's more like it.

Looks like Intel graphics are very prone to tearing, so I use VSync at the display's 94Hz. Helps save some battery on simple games or in low settings.

Actually that is overclocked as the website only says 60Hz supported, my ATi AIW 9700 Pro saw 75Hz supported.

I use it in all games which run excessive framerates like CS:GO and aside from that on all games that offer it that don't usually put out excessive framerates. I'll simply limit it to 100-110 FPS then (see my monitor). I like to save power, but more than that, I like my PC to stay more silent or less loud I should say.

Since I am using 40 inch TV via HDMI, I am kinda forced to play at 60 fps with VSync enabled. But it doesn't bother me at all. I also limited the fps to 60 via Crimson, so they don't go through the roof in menus and loading screens. Furthermore, I am using Radeon Chill to throttle the fps to 45 in cutscenes or when I am afk.

i don't use any kind of sync because it increases input lag. usually not noticeable, but sometimes is.

as for your survey, you won't save much by limiting your frame rate. for example. when i play overwatch, limiting the frames to 85 FPS (to match display) as opposed to pushing like 200+ FPS only saves about 30W. any power savings i could get with adaptive or Vsync is insignificant, especially since i don't play much. i would have to play for about 200 hours to add $1 USD to my electric bill.

Depends on games, some games have framerate limit like Doom3 at 60fps, I just keep it that way. Other games I just kept Vsync disabled. I tried Fastsync but it crashes on older games like Max Payne. Framerate is north 200+fps even reaching 500fps in that game.

I think I was misunderstood.

Faster RAM will increase *cpu* utilization across the board, which in turn nets an FPS increase, especially in the minimums, whenever you are not GPU limited.

I updated the choices.

Originally I was meaning like not vysnc and simple frame limiters like rtss etc.

So I have experimented a bit with frame limiting as apposed to Vsync and the only reason I was using Vsync on my laptop was to help keep GPU and CPU heat under control. But then you mentioned framelimiters and I was like hmm maybe I will try a framelimiter for help in controlling heat out put and tested my laptop at a 90FPS limit via Rivatuner Statistic Server (RTSS) and was pleasantly surprised that the extra 30FPS I get compared to Vsync 60FPS seems to make a lot of difference towards the good for control of cars in my race games and the heat out put only raised by about 10- 15 cels but the performance increase seems to be worth it! Thank you for a heads up on framelimiters
