My wife is not too concerned about the space but more about the wasted money.
Which is why I've been on the same platform for 4 years and my "pile" of hardware really can be confined to 2 or 3 small totes. I guess having a child kind of influences that decision because I wouldn't really have cared otherwise.

With aquinas here...

And I'm not a hoarder.. if it doesn't have a use for my active system(s), there isn't room in my house for it. I'm lean and mean, lol.

I have a toolbox that contains all my little knick nacks/adapters/fittings etc, and I have a few retail boxes for my active stuff I will sell...and as mentioned a spare this that and the other for testing. :)

I have too much extra stuff laying around. Way too much.
I had a nephew come to me not long ago and ask me to repair his ~~OLD~~ PC. It was shot, so I built a new PC for him out of old parts that I had laying around.

He got an ATX system with a new 460W PSU off of the shelf,.......used 16GB DDR3-1600 RAM,...........a Pentium G-something or other CPU,.........a 750GB HDD,...........a DVD Burner,..............and an R9-290X GPU.
I had a new keyboard and mouse, and speakers. I didn't have a screen for him to use.

This didn't even put a dent the stuff I have on hand.

I have a large "empty boxes" place. Most the builds I do I warranty. Sense most manufactures require the original box. Most of my spare parts I sell. The price drops too damn fast.

Yes I do. Sorry, appropriately I should say "yes we do". It's in our mothers house. It's not as big as yours and it's definitely not organized as yours. By the way, We have a computer room. There are 3 computers in that room. 1 Desktop, 1 17.3 inch laptop and another laptop with an extra monitor.

No no, you did't get it. The room is very tiny. There is nothing else but computers.

I stopped collecting years ago. If it is broke, it gets recycled. If it is obsolete, it gets recycled. I only hold on to what I reasonably expect to use (mostly just power supplies and hard drives).

Bit of a hoarder but I did a little cull when I moved last year. I generally try to pass my hardware along to help out people. I just sent my 2600K/P67 Sabertooth to a friend in Greece who had his Mobo fail on him. That to me is the reason I try to keep old hardware around. He is SO happy with it(he an locked i5 Ivy) I keep all the boxes for stuff just in case so I think they take up more space than anything.

I don't keep any old hardware but i do try to keep most of my boxes for all my electronics, only ones i threw away recently are peripheral boxes. I have my limited edition MGSV PS4 box under my bed and few other limited edition games under my bed,my monitor and comp boxes are kept in my parents garage along with my other junks like car parts and car cleaning products. Because a computer case packaging box is huge*Fractal Design* i've shoved in my PSU,mobo,CPU and GPU box in there.

You guys really helped my case with the wife! :toast:

We negotiated, and I'm going to rebuild a couple of old rigs to save some space, reorganize and (reluctantly) throw out things over 10 years old. :banghead:

Might throw up a few pics of a nostalgia build this week, since I'm on vacation for the week and kind of bored.

It's a relief to know I'm not only one with this problem.

an entire bedroom, kinda hard to take pics theres so much of it XD

heres a few highlights:

Gaming PC #2/game server (the i5 2500k build) + 25 odd spare hard drives (the 20 connected ones are under the desk)

"Small parts" pile. You can see the corner of my "workbench" there (which mostly holds our two gaming laptops, but also has spare screens + power for fixing systems)

Inside the wardrobe - normally a lot more power/HDMI/VGA etc cables hanging from there.

I have over 50 motherboards, dozens of ram kits, 25 or so CPUs, 14 full systems not in use, and plenty of other stuff in my hoard.

But I didn't pay for most of it. Its cheaper (literally) for me to keep it. If I tried to take it to a recycling depot, they'd charge me $25 per board.

Wife doesn't care at all, we got a big enough house. Since pretty much everything was a sample given to me for review purposes, some do have sentimental value to me, and when our house is finished building and ready for us to move in, I'll have a room with all those parts attached to the walls.

Mowing... and shoveling the snow! Having a corner lot sucks in some ways! I don't have a garage right now either, and that's what has my wife OK with it, TBH, because there's nowhere else for me to put this stuff until I can get it on the walls.

I sell stuff I don't use. That said, I have a number of things that I still need to sell. I greatly reduced my junk collection. My pile of parts is currently a spare power supply, a ton of fans, and some ram, a couple cables and random junk for customizing cases, grills, cable ties, etc. Basically it all fits on a couple shelves, mostly in boxes. You would be surprised how easy and fun it is to sell computer hardware on eBay, and it can fund your upgrades as well. I have bought a lot of used hardware to upgrade my machine, and I frequently can resell the used hardware for about the same price that I paid initially. If you don't use it, you might as well resell it and get some extra cash for future upgrades, give some happy customer a good deal, free up some space, make your wife happy.

I live in an apartment, single room 46 m2 with a huge kitchen, and have no storage. Most apartments have included storage, and I actually do, but it's essentially a shed so the only thing you can keep there long term are tires, some car stuff and possibly furniture. So I keeo my computer/electronics stuff in the cupboards in the kitchen. I'm really glad I got rid of a lot of junk when I moved, otherwise I don't know what I would do.

Pardon the piss-poor pictures. I have so much shit in my basement that I need to sell. The monitor that is sitting next to the test bench is temporary as I'm putting the Supermicro board in a new case (needed to test it first). Hundreds and thousands of dollars of hardware sitting around doing nothing. Sigh
