Waking up the thread for an update.

Well, it's been right at a year since the wife caused this thread by griping about my computer closet, and she now she finally made me clean it this weekend. I admit I had a good time going through a bunch of old hardware, but would have rather been doing something else on a Saturday. Anyway, I thought I would share a few pics of it cleaned up and throw in a couple pics of old hardware I stumbled across along the way.

First Step: Empty the closet. This is everything, and I am kind of shocked it all fit in the closet to begin with.
Closet 1.jpg

Box of old games. I really need to get a few of these out to play when I have the time.
Closet 2.jpg

DFI LanParty 790FX...I used to love this board.
Closet 3.jpg

Reference 4850 (Single Slot) with Zalman Cooler from many years ago.
Closet 4.jpg

AMD Processors everywhere, including an old K6-II.
Closet 5.jpg

Final product.

This concludes the tour of the computer closet. The wife is happy, so now I am happy again as well.

Anyone else had to clean the spare parts area in the last year at the "request" of a significant other?

Sadly I got rid of a bunch of older stuff to a few friends, and threw some stuff out in the garbage. I did keep a single 4850, 6870, 290x and a MB from each generation of processor I have (other than the K6-2). I also refuse to get rid of my HP Servers, though I admittedly haven't used them in years, simply because all of those SCSI drives cost a ton back in the day. I kept a couple spare keyboards and mice, as well as 2 spare SSDs and a few backup HDD's plus I never get rid of any watercooling gear, just in case.

My wife is happier, but still doesn't understand the sentimental value some of this gear has to me, and the need to keep it in good condition.

I have a closet full of parts that is attached to our computer room, but it always inevitably spills out into the room when I need something specific and pull it all out... then just leave it out...

My wife doesn't mind, because she knows that every time her gaming machine or laptop goes down, it doesn't get fixed by magic.

The best thing is that I have over 40+ spare SATA cables. Never going back to those times when I didn't have even one spare cable and when one broke, I was like daaaaaamn..

Also those can be selected to match color themes, though I like those B&W Asus cables the most. :)

Why is it that the wife always complains about these computer parts Depot's? I can just imagine the exact same speech coming from many different women about the exact same issue ;)

Amateur, my entire house has become a parts stop, from the garage to upstairs to the basement, there's random crap everywhere and of every sort, I really need to organize the entire house one day.

My entire bungalow is a spare parts warehouse. Only spaces that aren't covered in boxes of graphics cards, CPUs and other parts are the sofas, bed and a small area for wholesale food purchases :)

When I moved into an apartment I ended up throwing away or selling the majority of my spare parts (read, old and never to be used again parts). These included old socket 775 mobo combos and so on. I think I had about a closet full of stuff - maybe 5-6 systems worth of stuff?

I kept a graphics card from every 5 years just for fun though. And I do have a Z68 ITX mobo lying around with an i5 something in it as a platform I can use if my main rig goes down and I can't afford replacement parts.

EDIT: I love how in many of the photos above there seems to be a Coolermaster CM690 II. Obviously we have some good taste in PC cases. I've still got one that I repurposed for my folks' home server. It used to be my gaming PC case haha.

Yeah it was good but I hated that small cut out for the cooler mounting at rear side, so sold it.

Once upon a time my wife complained about my boxes of clutter so i showed her a box full of kettle leads and explained that there would never be a time when the kettle would not have a usable lead. In my wifes eyes, the kettle is the most important piece of electrical equipment in the house and she promptly learned the importance of boxes of "stuff"

and we all lived happily ever after.
