Do You Recommend Me To SLI My 8800 GT Alpha Dog XXX?

Hey guys/girls, since getting my new computer upgrade from my 5 year old computer I've been extremely satisfied and I have been seeing pretty much like 100% performance increase. Been running games on 1280x1024 (my max resolution) like Crysis on high with 2x aa and af, Fallout 3 on high with 2x aa and af and Left 4 Dead on highest settings with maxed out aa and af and been getting very smooth FPS. I was thinking if I should buy another 8800 GT Alpha Dog XXX as they are pretty cheap. Would there be a massive performance increase of having another same card in SLI? And since i have a really small resolution, do you think having another one would be a waste of money? Or do you think I should save my money and later upgrade my GFX card when I require it? And my mobo is a XFX nForce 750a SLI...

It would be a waste of money IMO. I think it would be better to put the money for the new card, along with the money you can get from the sale of yours into a new one.

How much are the 8800GTs new?

You can Xfire differenet 48xx series, or different 47xx series, etc, ATI cards together, but for SLI that cards have to be the same

It wouldnt cost you anymore to upgrade to another 8800GT than to a GTX 260.

Fallout 3 1280x1024, High settings, 2x aa and 2x af and 40-50 fps
Left 4 dead 1280x1024, Maximum settings, 4x aa and 16x aa and 60+ fps

Okay on my GTX 260:

Crysis: I get about the same FPS but all on max settings, Very High DX10, (I use built in edge smoothing),

I dont have the other two, lol.

If you want I can get Crysis going, and if we both download the BM tool, we can compare properly at the same rez then.

DX9 1280x1024 AA=2x, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Last Average FPS: 47.98

From what I've seen a 260 gets about 10-15FPS more than a 9800GTX+ on the same settings depending on the platform and game.

sounds about right. The 260 will be more powerful than the 8800gt SLI'ed. I had a 260, and before that, I had SLI'ed 9800gtx. With the 260 OC'ed, it out performed the two 9800's(which were OC'ed). Comparing my GTX280 I have to the GTX260 I had, crysis, very high 1920*1200, I get about 5-7 FPS more with the GTX280.

simply put i say yes sli them. i have 2 8800gts 512's in sli and i can still play all of todays games on mostly high settings and 60-80 fps average. i love my 8800's, although i'm soon to turn them in for a set of gtx 285's, and by set i mean 3 of them.

if the 260 is 2X the cost of another 8800 stay with the 8800s.

LOL, the 8800GT is such a good card they didnt even change it, they just slapped on a 9800GT sticker and voila...And they were even gonna call it a GTS 240 till people really freaked out...

I see your gaming at 1280x1024 TricksterMatt. IMO, any card above and beyond what you got would be a waste. Stick with what you have until you can gather up the cash to upgrade your display.

GTX 260's are about £150 here, so thats why I said, they could sell their current card and but the £100 for the new 8800GT with it for a GTX 260.

GT200 is just very powerful that it can do physx and graphics faster than the 8600GTS can do just physx.

Though with my 9600GT, I actually get a boost in FPS!
