Source?

Ive found it works great, i have 2 pc w/ win10 & 2 w/ win 7.

i found this limited test
also DX12 is only on win10. your 750ti would probably do better on win10

Source is the community, internet and csgo subreddit in general. CSGO is a pretty unoptimized game based on source engine (bad for performance)

my nephew runs CSGO on a win 7 PC with your exact GPU and CPU, and i recommended he upgrade for better PErf.. even if he didnt get better perf in CSGO, it is kind of silly to base your PC upgrades on a 17 year old game, unless ofc you play it professionally and earn $$, or play nothing else. He just doesnt want to start new all over again, so laziness is his reason for not switching. but over all, id put my money on Win 10 performing better, not to mention it is being optimized still, if its beating out win 7 now, how will it look when Win 10 is as old as win 7 ( 8 years or whatever it is) . i hope you see a perf increase.

It's not gaming performance that is the problem in W10, except maybe that Dx12 was over hyped. So far Vulkan has had far better performance than Dx12. It's the fact that it has tons of social media type telemetry that many prefer to turn off, and even when you do it will sometimes re-enable them or new features when it updates itself, which you then have to shut off again if you don't want potential snooping happening. It also doesn't let you pick which updates to install, it forces them on you. Lastly, and perhaps most annoying, is that it has problems with certain programs and older games.

It sounds like from what you're saying it's not W7 that is causing your performance problems. My guess is that the newer games are getting too high in requirements for your hardware, and W10 won't solve that problem. In some cases it might even make it worse. That said, some games only work on W10 (usually MS published ones), so if you want to play those, you'll have to switch.

I was going to say, if you think the OS is really holding back your gaming performance to then it's time for a new PC.

W10 is great for gaming and provides DX12 capability with a modern graphics card.

What's really holding back your performance is that low end 750 Ti. Doesn't matter how good the rest is if the graphics card is slow and W10 won't make any difference there. Check out my GT 1030 v GTX 580 showdown in my siggy for a dramatic demo of the performance difference between low end and high end graphics cards and between generations.

Formatting your SSD for an OS install won't hurt it, only defragging will and then only over time, not immediately. Note that to install any recent Windows version, a reformat isn't necessary. Just delete the partition or partions and Windows will then quick format it and install without any further disc management required from yourself.

I can understand one being hesitant to upgrade the OS when the next big version comes out, it's always wise to wait and see from early adopters what issues may arise from current hardware and software compatibility. However, Windows 10, a free upgrade, has been out for how long? grandekid, there is absolutely no reason for you to be still using an antiquated OS for ANY reason, especially considering you are still using (technically) modern hardware. I would upgrade now, while you can, before M$ ends support, and save yourself the headache later on.

As someone who uses Window 10 exclusively for gaming, holding back is just plain silly! Don't listen to the internet hype about X OS not being optimized or that X OS will give you better FPS; It's nonsense! Take the plunge and feel good in that your OS is current, with ongoing support and regular updates, and that literally millions of people are gaming, hassle free, since the launch of Windows 10, like myself!

As for formatting the SSD, someone correct me if I am wrong but I thought doing a Secure Erase using the Samsung tool or motherboard BIOS returned the SSD to a near factory fresh state.

While it's always good to stay up to date, and Windows 10 may run better, I doubt your performance is degrading just because you're still using Windows 7... if that's even what you mean? Are newer games just not running as well as you'd like, or is your system just not performing as well as it used to? If it's the former, you just need better hardware (graphics card), but if it's the latter, Windows 7 isn't at fault. Maybe you have a virus, or your PC hasn't been cleaned in a while and it's dusty and stuff is getting hot and overheating, or maybe your OS is just gunked up (as tends to happen over time) and what you really need is a fresh start, regardless if it's Windows 7 or Windows 10.

As for formatting the SSD, someone correct me if I am wrong but I thought doing a Secure Erase using the Samsung tool or motherboard BIOS returned the SSD to a near factory fresh state.

SSDs have a finite amount of "life" (that is, the number of times the memory cells can be written to). This will happen, no matter what, especially on an OS drive where lots of disk activity tends to happen, and garbage collection and wear leveling and whatnot takes place. Performing a secure erase will wipe the drive (how secure that wipe is is up for debate), but it won't magically restore the health of those memory cells. In fact it will damage them (very slightly) further by causing an empty write to happen across the entire drive. That said, there's not much reason to worry about SSD health these days. It's not 2009 anymore and the drives have gotten a lot better since then.

Windows 10 is a direct upgrade from 7 8 and 8.1, there's nothing better on these, compared to W10, actually it's the opposite. Just go 10

IME most games run better under Windows 10, not performance wise but in resource usage I've seen what appears to be some games using less CPU/RAM while performing equally.

As for formatting your SSD, I wouldn't really be concerned with another install, I've probably cleared my 240gb kingston 10+ times by now and it's still reporting 99% with no hiccups and perfect performance YMMV...

I would far from say Win10 isn't optimized for games, more the game isn't optimized for Win10.
I've had no problems I can remember where a game ran well in Win7 and doesn't well in Win10 even old DOS games from the 80s-90s.

I have really grown to appreciate some of the other changes made with Win10 which is what pushed the move, I wouldn't say performance of any of my software would have been a driving force otherwise. --- IMO a clean *not upgraded* install of Win10 is required, I've had some work great and others not so well, a clean install gives me the peace of mind.

The transition is fairly easy. But gaming is no difference good or bad. But as an OS it's better

relying on "the community" is not a good idea. Use professional reviewers

Seriously? What I noticed is that it can use upwards 1GB more RAM unless you literally turn off ALL telemetry features. Maybe those with 16GB or more RAM don't notice such things, but those of us still on 8GB sure do.

There's an option for the disabled. Just Google for it, it's on their website. It's also been posted on TPU some time ago.

If someone is disabled in some way, they're eligible for a free Windows 10 upgrade. The upgrade page is on Microsoft's website, so if you Google it you should find it. It's also been linked to from TPU.

I'm busy now, so I can't search for it at the moment for you. Someone else might post the link here if you're lucky.
