Do you think the post voting system is bad?

Right now it has turned into a weapon what mad fanboys use to attack each other. Take a look at any news or review thread involving the word "AMD" or "Radeon 7"

The mods marked "low quality" post is more than enough. I personally think the post voting system should be removed.

What do you think?

If you remove it, then you have to also remove most of the titles(?) you "earn" with them. Not sure what they're called. The this or that Expert/Master/Champion doodads at the bottom of your posts. Pretty sure you "earn" those based on post ratings.

Anyway, I'm indifferent to it. It can stay or go. Doesn't really mean anything to me either way.

Why didn't you set up a poll on this?

If you decide to then probably add a category for people who don't care either way what happens with it. That would be my vote.

I feel it is fair for folks to up/down rate posts they agree/disagree with, sure will some folks abuse it? Absolutely. Reporting, posting, PM's, user names, signatures, avatars, likes, etc. have all been abused. Should we remove all those as well? If we did, we wouldn't have a forum to post on.

So to me it doesn't necessarily mean the feature is bad or a failure. Maybe some tweaks or adjustments, but really I feel it comes down to the community and how you all as individuals use and/or abuse it, you all have a choice to make every time you come to this site.

We appreciate the feedback, and please keep it going. Let me add the obligatory "let's keep it constructive please", thanks all.

Those are pointless. Just because you posted in a topic and people upvoted, doesn't mean it was correct or even relevant. I believe the coined term is "Circle Jerk".

It's not bad on paper, but it's bad in practice, because humans use it. It's tainted by fanboys upvoting or downvoting other fanboys.

Up and down votes kind of makes it more liable to abuse by trends.

The like system is better, where you are named. A dislike would also work - at least you visibly get named as a detractor. People would be less likely to spam dislike.

The mods get to decide if something is not within the rules or what intimates a low quality post.

The scores allow the community to rate the post with respect to that thread and also can be moderated, i like it , i hope it might help stop people ranting about cults?! In technology threads given time and understanding.

Plus user choice and moderation seams better than fully moderated ,curated content, i personally think things have improved since there introduction.

How about limiting the number of + and - that each individual can give out per day? As a currently stands it only serves the abuser of the system. I will post a poll when I have time, or if @64K have time please post a poll.

I like the ideas mentioned above as well, just limiting it to likes only.
