Does 939 cooler work with AM2?

I see some aftermarket coolers that say they work for both sockets, but will a stock AMD 939 cooler work on a AM2 board?

it should since they just use the clip. I think every AMD socket can use this clip on coolers
but Intel has their own type of clip on...

Then would it also be safe to say that a 939 aftermarket cooler designed before AM2 would also still work with AM2?

If it uses a clip mechanism then yes. If it uses screws, no. That's the general rule of thumb.
