Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced that a PC equipped with its Dominator GT ultra-high performance DDR3 memory was used to set new world records with the 3DMark 11 and 3DMark Vantage benchmarks. Well-known overclockers Vince "K|ngp|n" Lucido and Illya "TiN" Tsemenko posted list-topping scores of P24347 in 3DMark 11 and P79364 in 3DMark Vantage.

The hardware used included an EVGA Classified SR-2 motherboard, dual Intel Xeon X5690 CPUs, four custom-modified EVGA GeForce GTX 580 GPUs, and three 2GB Corsair Dominator GT GTX2 DDR3 memory modules. A total of seven Kingpin Cooling liquid nitrogen pots were used to cool the CPUs, GPUs, and the Intel 5520 chipset.

Full details are available on the Corsair blog, and on the Xtreme Systems forums (thread). More information about Corsair Dominator high-performance DDR3 memory can be found on the Corsair web site.

interesting, but again the age of superclockers seems to be waning in the pc industry. I mean when you throw top of the line hardware and liquid nitrogen together it's impossible to not break a record this days.

That can't be true as that just means everyone would beat the record and it would go higher

what this really means is that theres less overclockers, meaning less competition for the record

i think this is stupid , what is the point of "overcloking" if you can't use it in every day life? ohhh look using 1000$ of hardware i can break a record! WOW!

those record breaker should have ther own league so other people overclocking to actually get real life performance out of his hardware to get more performance per $$$ .....

using that logic whats the point of the Olympics and World records in general, an ordinary person will never run 100m to the bus in 8 seconds...

What does the system being "Dominator GT Equipped" have to do with anything? Most any other sticks that will run at the same 2045 8-8-8-24 would give you the same performance in 3dmark. There has to be better ways to market ram. This is simply for the masses who don't know any better.

good point :p

but i was saying this and i was meaning that ANYONE can do this if he's got the CASH ... so that why we would need categories like there are the Olympic and the Olympic for disabled !

those guys always take top spot , but the score is like artificially boosted like a runner at the Olympic taking drugs to run faster! it last for 1 race and after that he doesn't really run that fast ever....

Because we all know that memory is the most important part when attempting 3DMark records...

I don't find all this interesting anymore. Back in the days when we were overclocking to insane clocks using just air coolers or modified air coolers (like CPU coolers on gfx cards), it was fun and it was about what you were able to attach to the component to cool it down better. Now it's just how much LN you can pour in and if you have access to helium to boost its effect. Booooooooooooring.

That's why i still have the respect for those who break records using just air cooling or water cooling at least. Both of them can be used long term and they are both accessable to everyone.

It would be more interesting if it were on air/water, everything else is just unassailably expensive most of the time. It would be nice if futuremark maintained records with the stipulation 'on air' or 'on water' for people, though there's no way to confirm the cooling people are using digitally, you'd have to take their word for it.

Nobody pays in cash, rather in cherry-picked parts. Intel, for example, sends an entire "top" tray of delicious chips to some of them, they're made to play with each of those chips, pick out the best, and return the rest.

Ditto. I'm only impressed by 24/7 overclocks. If you have a sandybridge running 5 ghz 24/7 with 8 gbs of 2133mhz ram at cas 7 you can color me impressed. That's fairly tough with IMC limitations. Why care about impractical shit that probably wasn't even stable. It's all just for advertising products now anyways.

Exactly...pretty much any enthusiast kit with Elpida Hyper will do at least 2100 8-8-8-24...Had he run 2080 6-7-6-21 or something maybe it would have a little more merit, but even then its pretty much useless in 3D

plus frikkin one!!!!!!

My Supertalent's (which are hypers) run 7-7-7-24 2k all day long at 1.65v and cost half what those GT's do. I dont see what the memory has to do with this either.

@beepbeep - not in vantage it isnt or any long Wprime/Spi. ;)

for all you negativists ;)

You are right that you cannot really compete if you don't have money or sponsors to buy the best hardware, but it is NOT THE ONLY THING you need! Of course there is a lot of knowledge and experience required which you cannot buy! Every piece of motherboard, CPU and GPU is a bit different and you have to fine tune it to get the best performance and you have to really understand what you are doing in order to squeeze maximum performance and not break it. But do I really need to tell you this here?
and nitrogen cooled systems were never meant to be used for anything else then breaking records, because normal use of such system would be far too expensive IMHO...

The sad thing about this all is these records are only being reached using memory modules that are EOL. I'm still p'd off that Elpida discontinued the Hyper chips
