Me too man. I used to specifically launch that game at midnight for early morning sessions with the lights off just to feel the rush as much as possible. That game scared the shit out of me more than any game ever has to date.
This is not that game. This Doom is a throw back to its roots. Better learn how to run and gun figure 8 style, rocket jump and make premeditated shots based off map flow. If they stay true to their word this game will be a flop with millinals and a hit with generation x. This game is from the golden era of pc gaming. This game is in homage to pc gaming lore and is not for the faint hearted.

Prepare your anus. Daddy is coming home.

Doubtful that it will be as 'old school' as you think/hope it will be. Generation X can hardly be called the dominant target for a big release such as this. All the reboots want to achieve is ready a new generation of minds and hearts for a new series of sequels in the same IP.

Did you miss the first two pages of argument about that point? It's not really the same people. It is the same company yes but only in name.

It still comes from the same publisher, a publisher with an agenda that is visibly aimed at console-first gameplay. Look at the way the TES series has evolved, Fallout has evolved, and the way old engines are rehashed until infinity for the vast majority of releases. Different developers within that don't change much about policies with regards to inhouse engines and budget. Elder Scrolls Online is also done by different devs than TES series, yet it shares similar drawbacks.

In the exact same vein you can clearly see dominant policy and business decisions within ALL releases from any triple A publisher. An EA game is clearly an EA game, same goes for Ubisoft, regardless of the dev behind it.

I'm IN regardless......gonna buy it at launch. I hope it's simply install and play....none of that Uplay (or something like it) POS, totally fine with it being distributed by Steam though it, the game has be been attached to my Uplay account, but when I try to install the game, it ask for activation code....again. So when I key in the code (again), it tells me the game is attached to my account and that I should check 'My Game' library, guess what, my older games are there but NOT FCP. :banghead:

I contacted Ubisoft support after the failed install and this %$#@ issue has not been resolved as of now. This is the reason why I'm quite put off about buying The Division, don't want another repeat of this stupid install issue. With Steam, once the game has been activated and attached to your account, it'd show up in your game library, no wonder some have been crapping on Uplay, didn't think it'd be so crappy till I got hit with this issue. First time in my sorry life I've been stumped by a simple thing like installing a game.:banghead::banghead:

Sorry for going OT, but Uplay is pissing me off to no end....

QFT. One of the reasons Todd and John left off the record is because they didn't like the business practices of Zeni.

This is why I never pay for Ubishit games. Origin eventually evolved but is still a steaming pile of shit compared to Steam. The Division, although a good game, is plagued by Uplay and I'm glad a friend paid for my copy instead AND didn't pay the full 60 bucks. Any time I play the game at work and quit Uplay locks out my mouse and I have to reboot using keyboard commands. Said friend who purchased the game for me has the exact same issue.

Regardless of all that I'm still going to get this game despite not caring about it until recently. I loved Quake 3 freeze tag mode and I'm hoping the Doom version works in the same manner. I'll play that shit forever.

It is a shame that Rage was bashed on and poor graphics blamed on John Carmack's idtech 5 and mega textures, it was clear that zenimax pressured them to release it unfinished.. . It was down to consoles memory starved poor hardware... John made it run at 60 fps on both consoles by dynamically adjusting the screen resolution to meet the target render time. They are doing this at valve atm to make VR possible on older hardware (eg. gtx 680), and ppl going insane saying that it is such an innovative and brilliant idea etc... Megatextures are incredible, read on it ppl. idTech 5 for me still stands as one technological marvel with its glory stolen by the crappy console hardware...
Ultimately John's work was underappreciated and ridiculed by the press, he wanted to do VR at idSoftware, Zenimax would not let him do it, so he said goodbye.

I can't agree with IDT5 as I thought in general it was shit and texture streaming wasn't properly implemented IMO (Wolfenstein being a good example although still held back by last gen consoles) and I thought Rage was shit regardless. That being said, Carmack talked about all these things at Quakecon behind closed doors. Him and Todd both did not like the direction Zeni took ID. I have hopes for IDT6 though.

Ubisoft support has gotten back to me on this, only to ask for more detail (gave them a screenshot of my account, My Library and a pic of the receipt as proof of purchase). I'd gotten the game on the 9th of March, it's already been more than 2 weeks and this issue hasn't been resolved.:banghead: I hope someone from Ubisoft is reading this, you guys are making an awesome case for Blackbeard and company. I'm a legit buyer and owner of the game, yet I've NOT played it since getting it on the 9th of March.....well done, Ubisoft!:nutkick:

I have mixed feelings about the Doom 4 beta. the multiplayer section of this game was made by another developer that worked on Halo and it shows.

my complaints: no Rocket Jump/Pipe Launching, no Bunny hop (sad panda), no BFG (maybe in campaign?), grenades are thrown off-hand (Call of Duty style), vaulting with double jump is weird, 2-weapon loadouts, perks, third person camera pull out, weird melee, not a lot of gibs when you blow someone up, player models look too much like generic Spartans, don't like the arena announcer either.

Irrational (RIP), Starbreeze (Machine Games) and Raven are the only developers I can think of that can make a decent First Person campaign. Raven has been relegated to making Fu*king map packs for Call of Duty and Machine Games was probably busy making the Wolfenstein games. i'm trying to be optimistic but I don't think ID Software can pull off a decent campaign :( sorry guys.

thinking about this is bumming me out!

Tried a couple matches and it was okay but I realized that Black Desert was running in the background so the slight sluggishness was probably from that. Try again after work.

Unreal Tournament boys. That's where it's at.

Doom will never get to that level for multiplayer arena shooters, and the single player is lackluster anyway.
