I honestly don't like twitch shooters but totally understand why others might like them.
I wonder if there may be power ups similar to the berzerker and invulnerability where you could speed up gameplay a bit.

Watched the two hour longish single player videos - still the original crappy looking Doom is scarier.

Old doom is scary because of that happy floaty skipping type walking animation you do. It's not very precise. It leads you into moments of committing yourself to stepping into a room full of mobs because you can't stop the character at the door way. You either stay back or go in - all the way in.

I think I'll buy this thing. There was a lot of hype around Doom 3 but it just never felt right. This one does for some reason. Plus, I'm interested about level editor. I was never into complicated map editors, but I loved creating tracks and maps in games like Re-Volt or Trackmania. Because only limitation is your imagination and not the ability to even use the damn editor. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

a 980TI @ 1400MHz runs fine maxed out including nightmare textures, shadows @ 1440p @ vsync,1620p (2880x1620) is a bit too much and can have 50ish fps drops.
Also Nightmare textures uses up to 5.5GB @ 1620p, shadows doesn't affect vram just gpu usage (ultra vs nightmare ~ 4-5fps difference), although nightmare shadows looks better - more defined.

Time to fire up my puppy. Lets see how my OC'ed GTX 980 will deal with the very latest game. Also can't wait to try the map editor. I hope it's for single player and not just for MP maps.

HOLY SHIT! I've tried running this game with everything set to Ultra in 4K resolution (using DSR, without Anti-Aliasing) on GTX 980 (not even Ti) and it was perfectly playable. Not super high framerate and at only 60Hz again (why you do this NVIDIA!!?!?!) but there was no lag or stutter. At 1080p with max AA, it's silky smooth and ultra fast. If this is the future with Vulkan and DX12, bring it on, it's awesome!

I'm playing it on Nightmare and it's quite unforgiving. One hit from Imp and you lose half the health lol. So far I'm liking it, but I don't understand why shotgun only carries 20 shells. That's something you have in realistic shooters, not Doom. Hm. I hope some upgrade addresses this later on...

You can play in steam up to 2hours, if you won't like it just ask for charge back.

It's very early to say, but it does feel pretty badass. Especially since they spiced it up with perks, upgrades, weapon mods and unlocks. So you can adjust weapons to your taste and speed up upgrading by doing side "quests" or achievements and you gain points for that which can be spent on weapon upgrades. And compared to Doom 3, this feels more like Serious Sam and original Doom games than Doom 3. It's way more action packed and you get several enemies attacking you at once. And I really like that monsters don't always spawn on you like in Doom 3. They do, but not always in your face so it feels a lot more "natural" and closer to original Doom. Most companies usually fail at doing reboots (latest Need for Speed attempt was pretty poor), but I have a pretty good feeling here.

I'm playing it on Nightmare and while it's very unforgiving, it isn't stupendously hard. I've died few times, but thanks to decent checkpoint system, it's not really that frustrating. And with upgrades, it's easier since you tailor your weaponry to your play style. I just got myself explosive shotgun mod with upgraded boom factor. So I can mow down clusters of monsters as well as individual ones up close, making shotty very versatile. Oh and I really like how they give basic unlimited ammo pistol upgrades. I really loved that in Alien Rage - Unlimited game, so you can still make use of basic pistol even late in the game where in most other games, starting weapon becomes useless because it's just too shit. So that's good as well.

Ach....

Got it running - all ultra at 1440p caps at 60fps.

It's.... umm.... how can I say it without getting people uppity...?

It's crap. It's crap not in so much as it's linear (to be expected) or that it's OTT with gore and stuff. It's crap because it has no soul, no atmosphere (don't confuse gfx with atmosphere) and most of all...

THERE IS NO SUSPENSE. NO HORROR.

I may as well be running through pretty rendered fields punching mildly aggressive unicorns. That's how much fear there is. I suppose this is me coming off the back of playing Dark Souls 3 - a proper scary game with weird shit going on. In comparison, I don't feel as though the game is fighting me, I feel as though it's fighting it's own formulaic demise.

Yes it looks great and runs smooth. Yes, it's got a (very annoying, teenage style) crunchy metal theme music. Yes it's got demons and mars but this may as well be Rebel Faction with Unicorns. Hell, that would be better.

Pfft. Each to their own but if you want suspense, the Dead Space games were massively superior.

They wanted to make it like more classic like first Doom and not like Doom 3...

Dude - the classic corridor shooter was creepy and scary. You didn't know what to expect half the time with great big quiet sections (or gurgling behind walls) then 'bam' monsters. Ah, maybe it's too hard to make it great again so they go with the mindless shooter experience with onslaughts of demons for every end section. And Doom 3 was scarier as well. Those little crying Baby Cherub things....

Doom creepy and scary? Sorry, just no. Unless you count scary under walking into a room full of demons with 5 HP on Nightmare level. That's scary because you know you'll get mowed down. But creepy and scary in terms of being disturbing, skin crawling and shivers down the spine inducing, no. Doom 3 partially, but that made it the opposite of what old Doom was. Gunning down hordes of demons. You can't have both, because that just can't work. You can have scary atmosphere with deadly individual monsters or you have hordes of them and no scary atmosphere. Comparing Doom to Dead Space is just silly. Dead Space is System Shock 2, Deus Ex or Alien Isolation type of game with horror elements. Doom, despite recently introduced upgrades aligns more with Alien Rage, Serious Sam and original Doom's.

This Doom is by far the closest thing to original games from the 90's. And they refreshed it enough for it to feel good and not be just some shooter from 90's in new clothes.

It is IN NO WAY like the original games. I played those all the day they came out, start to finish, and then played them again hundreds of times since then. Same with quake and descent and all that generation of games... This new DOOM has AI that is less intelligent than the originals. I can launch a rocket in a place where there is no enemies, knowing that they will simply jump to that place next. Shoot them once, they continually follow you... on that pre-set path. It's the worst AI I've seen in ages.

Like no offense, but you're simply too young to understand why it sucks.

Don't want to post more about what I think, because I'm treading close to spoiler territory.

Can i run it medium ?
You might get ultra, even. I'm playing on a 6700K and a GTX980 on ultra @ 2560x1600 with zero problems.
