I have a doubt about the characteristics of the monitor to buy and use for gaming.

I currently have a 24" 1080p TN.
My need is to upgrade the monitor, with the aim of:

a) switch to a 27-28 "
b) increase the resolution to 2k or 4k
c) improve the stuttering that can occurs even in conditions of 50-60 fps, always playing with activated vsync, hating tearing
d) in any case improve the gaming experience from all points of view)
e) Freesync or g.sync

I use last fps game or action rpg, always with details to the maximum (as far as possible of course and the playable ... 40-60 fps) and with medium level VGA, not from 500-800 euros.

My questions, for which I ask you for advice, are the following:

1) in my situation, having a frequency higher than 60Hz, while never playing higher than 60-70 fps, in itself already improves the fluidity of the image? Or is it useless to use a 144Hz monitor?

2) in my case, the purchase of a 2k or 4k maybe it is better to orient it on a 60 or 90Hz?

3) does a game from 60 to 100 fps have a much higher fluidity and, above all, more pleasant in the gaming experience or do you notice much?

4) do you notice a better image quality going from a TN to an IPS or VA? ... if yes, maybe it is better to direct the choice to a better panel than the TN?

What games are you trying to play specifically?

Unless you forgot to update your specs your system is extremely outdated so if you're trying to play any modern game with a 6970 and 4GB of ddr3 you're gonna have a bad day.

- 1080p = 2k, 2160p = 4k. If you struggle to get smooth 60 fps with 1080p, then 2160p is not for you.
- Monitor will not improve on stuttering issues.
- You can improve gaming experience with rich colors and lighting with the monitor. You will have to look into monitor specs and compare them, learn what those specs mean in real life.
- Freesync or Gsync is not much, unless you have at least 90 hz monitor or playing competitively.
- If you don't play higher than 60 fps, you don't need 144 hz monitor, it will be a waste.
- Personally for me, 60 fps is enough. I prefer bigger display with higher resolutions than higher refresh rate. If you want both, you will have to pay $$$$$ of schekel. If you don't play competitive gaming, you don't need more than 60 fps.
- Chose IPS, it's superior to choices you have listed. Only better option would be OLED, but it's damn expensive.

Here is my choice, if you care https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD58-B-4k-uhd-led-monitor

Target size first, refresh rate and then maximum resolution. Freesync and Gsync aren't needed at 144hz and above. For gaming, 27" 1080p 144hz is better than 4k 60hz. But be careful, once you go 144hz, there is no going back.

A higher frequency like 144hz is instantly noticeable if you're used to 60hz, you'll see the mouse leaves more of a trail instead of disappearing and reappearing like you get with 60hz and a fast mouse. You will notice a difference gaming even if you don't get more than 60fps, the movement will be more fluid instead of stuttering like you can get with 60hz. If your stuttering is not monitor related a new monitor won't fix it.

IPS has the best color reproduction but isn't necessary for gaming. TN generally have the highest refresh but lesser color reproduction. You probably won't notice with fast motion like in a game, but might with full screen solid colors, and you may have to configure the monitor a bit to get the best color (my monitor had easy instructions online to optimize it).

I wouldn't go with 4k, either 1080p or 1440p will have better refresh than 4k and I don't think the card in your system specs can do 4k gaming.

Freesync and Gsync are for the respective video card manufacturer so if you have an amd card get freesync (or don't worry about either gsync or freesync and get a regular 144hz).

You'd better save money on upgrading your rig. Monitor is the last thing you have to upgrade in your situation. I suggest buying new video card, it will make a difference, then everything else

I apologize for not having updated the specifications, I often change hardware. Currently I have an I7 4770@4.2Ghz, 8GB DDR3 1866, SSD, GTX 1070. Surely in the near future I will switch to 16GB DDR3 and a bigger and better monitor. I don't know if I will soon change MB and CPU or postpone for some time. Probably I have the possibility to use a GTX 1080. In any case, the purchase of the monitor is to be evaluated also by virtue of upcoming component upgrades.

I picked up one of these yesterday, as I'm stuck abroad and ended up borrowing a PC, as my laptop is not really something you can game on.
It's a fairly basic screen, but the panel isn't half bad, it goes up to 144Hz and it's comparatively cheap.
Should work fine with your GTX 1070, as I have a Dell 25" screen back home with the same resolution that I used with my GTX 1070 a couple of years ago and didn't really suffer in any games at that resolution.
There are obvious better option, but that's not going to cost you a fortune. Not sure if it works with G-Sync compatible, as I need to get a DisplayPort cable to test that.
The only bad thing so far would be the lack of a height adjustable stand. Oh and it only comes with a DVI cable...
I guess this would be an ever more affordable option.

Since you have a 1070, I'd look at QHD monitors. Namely, either the LG 27GL850 or the Asus TUF 27", both of which would be excellent choices.

nVidia has fast sync option for probably any LCD, which does work pretty well. Got no tears since using it. No clue if AMD too, been a longer time since I used it.

Your first upgrade right before buying a monitor. 2x8gb ddr3 at the minimum. lack of ram can and may be the cause of your stuttering depending on the game you are playing.
