My Z170 Pro Gaming and 7700K to Rampage V Extreme and 5820K. I think that in fact I win in this deal, no money from me or my friend, we just change parts.

More cores/threads and just overclock it. I'd go for it.

Only thing I'm thinking would possibly be an issue is your 500w PSU.

Should be easy to hit 4.5 GHz if not more even with six cores. Just keep in mind you will lose a little bit of single thread performance since this is Haswell vs Skylake/Kabylake even at the same clockspeed.

Hmm interesting trade. I would take the 6 core over the 4 core that is completely eclipsed by the 8600/8700k any day. Yes you lose a few hundred mhz and a bit of IPC. The moments you'd notice will probably be very rare, but lacking physical core count is just painful. The resale value of a 5820k (rig) is most definitely higher than the 100% obsolete 7700K. I mean, there's literally no reason to buy one of those today, its just an i3 on steroids in 2018. Makes me wonder how did you get this trade up :)

7700k is better in gaming to be honest but not by much.

Yes its remarkably similar to a Ryzen 5 vs Intel quad standoff, except now you get 6 Intel cores that clock to 4.5 and beyond ;)

I just realized your move from the 7700K is going result in a hefty overclock on the 5820K IMC if you wanted to run your DDR4 at 2666 MHz vs it's official Intel sanctioned 2133 MHz top speed. Not all Integrated Memory Controllers optain the same overclock so your mileage will vary from everyone else.

If it was me I'd take the extra cores with an overclock that's not on the edge of stability.

Bragging rights aside, do you really gain anything from the extra cores? Work loads that gain noticeable performance boosts on the extra four threads? Like software video en/de/trans-coding, rendering, CFD or some other complicated simulations, etc.

IMO, if that's not the case, you don't gain much (or any) from this switch, practically speaking. Don't think there's much to lose either (save for power/thermal efficiency).

Rampage V Extreme still costs about 500eur here in Finland so yeah. :D

EOL product but anyway.

I stream about 2-3 times in a week so I need more cores/threads. I had 7600K before this 7700K and it wasn't enough. 8 threads helped, but I think that 6c/12t is even better.

If he has 4 sticks of RAM, it won't really matter if his RAM is only running at 2133 with the 5820K.

The 7700k will be marginally better for gaming performance, but the 5820k will crush everything else.

As for streaming, have you considered using your 7700k's integrated graphics? It still has the latest iteration of Intel Graphics, and quicksync might be worth a try. In theory, doing it that way would mean almost zero overhead from encoding the stream, so it would run even better than the 5820k.
