Downgrade gigabyte bios

Hi all,

I'm having issues with the F3 bios on my Z270-Designare since installation. Would anybody tell me how to downgrade to F1 ? I've seen poeple talking about CMOS reset, but one guy said that it would clear settings without reverting back to factory bios, seemed safer to ask about the matter

Thanks in advance

You got to Gigabyte's website, find your motherboard, download an earlier UEFI and flash it.

Don't worry about what OS it's listed under, it doesn't matter. If you select All OS's and go down to bios, both F1 and F3 are available to download :)

Hopefully going back will help, might be worth keeping an eye out for new updates though.

Thanks for the answers, but it says that it's not compatible with my system

Hum, so I found out that even after loading the default settings, my CPU was running at 4.5 even though settings were not OC in anyway.

Switched to upgrade CPU and set it to 4.6, now is working fine.
But it seems like it's stuck at 4.5 even with what should be a 4.2ghz ?

I have the i770k 4.2... Might be the bios that is stuck to those settings ? If so, what would be the solution ?

Where are you seeing the 4.5ghz? That's the 1-core boost speed for the 7700k, so any time your cpu is under light load it's likely to have 1 core ramp up to 4.5ghz. And when all cores are being hammered it would drop to 4.2ghz. I'd recommend downloading HWinfo so you can easily see what each core is doing in realtime :) You might be trying to fix a problem that isn't actually there.

That's great to hear, it is my first computer and the learning curve seems quite substantial. Thanks a lot infrared :toast:

But after thinking about it, it is quite worrying still. How come my computer has issues while not being OC to 4.6ghz and without any XMP by the bios ? I fear that I'd just be letting an issue rot

I saw the 4.5 at boot, when I went into the bios

You're welcome, and yeah there's a lot to take in. Make yourself at home, there's a lot of very knowledgeable members here that can help you if/when you get stuck ;)

The boot screen will quite often show an incorrect value. For example my 6700k @ 4.6ghz shows up as 4.0ghz. Grab HWinfo64/Aida64/CPU-Z and have a look. These are all more reliable than the motherboard boot screen. CPU-Z is the most basic and easy to understand tool, if you right click the cpu frequency it'll show you each core.
If you want to take a screenshot of it we can have a look and advise you from there.

Here are the screenshots ! Took the liberty to add some others since we're at it.
I used the aorus software to OC my graphics card a little bit, using presets (aorus 180 ti at boost clock 1746 mhz and memory clock at 11226mhz). My RAM can go up to 3200 mhz, and used the xmp settings in the bios to match that speed.
Is everything looking alright ? :fear:

Looks good so far :), speedstep is bringing the processor down to a low frequency and voltage while under no load just as it should, if you were to run a stress test like prime95 or aida64 while watching cpuz you should see all cores (right click the core speed box to list all cores) go to 4.2ghz. If you can load up 1 core only you might be able to verify it's reaching it's boost speed. this should work with prime95 running on 1 thread ("number of torture threads to run" box). This would probably be easier to monitor in hwinfo64 as it logs min/max/ave values so you could easily see if 1 core is getting to 4.5ghz.

You can't downgrade to F1. The BIOS for the F3 says:

"Support Intel® Optane™ Technology
* This BIOS prohibits updating to earlier version BIOS"

Also unless there is something really wrong with the BIOS, you always want the latest version.

EDIT: 4.5 is default turbo speed. Gigabyte has always done things a bit differently and is likely the way it runs all the time.

Just seen this, explains everything. My computer was being quite instable because of that, worrying stuff. Wouln't hurt them to inform us of those changes beforehand... Oh well.

Thank you all for taking the time :toast:
