Download Speed via Torrents are Crazy Slow

Hi,

We have a Modem ARRIS DOCSIS 3.0 and when DL'ing via using uTorrent or any type of Torrent App. it's locked at 100K where our Regular Downloads are 2.5MB

What is going on? Can't be cause i'm not connected via cable not my NetGear 5G Adapter can handle well beyond that slow speed @100k

Don't have the password to the modem so unable to see the options it has

Check your bandwidth settings in uTorrent. I haven't used it in ages, but I believe there are min and Max download and upload settings.

Maybe your ISP is capping torrent traffic at 100KB.

torrent downloads are reliant on connections/u/d Credit
They start off slow and over time should increase as you also upload and share
ps this is a legal torrent because if its not YOU PROBABLY GOING TO GET AN INFRINGEMENT NOTICE FROM YOUR ISP

If you're not using P2P transfers your download speed is fine correct?

If you had a VPN service you could test over that to confirm if your ISP is filtering by traffic type, which does occur.

You may have to turn on port forwarding and make sure the port numbers match. Also might wanna check into using peerblock.

They don't need to notify you that they're throttling P2P traffic that I'm aware of, hell its probably in the ToS as an open ended control they reserve the right to use unannounced or if they deem it necessary. I see quite a few ISPs set throttle limits on specific types of traffic all the time in my region.

If they flag copyrighted or what is considered illegal transfer of content that's a different story of course.

Try in preferences tab on uTorrent,bittorrent,Protocol Encription to forced and untick "allow incoming legacy connections".If there is ISP throttling,that should fix it.

Also, Check this out. In utorrent, there is something in Preference > bittorrent section called " Enable bandwidth management". Un-check that.

Run a combined speed test at testmy.net and post the results.

Your ISP might be throttling all non-standard ports to 100KBps. Since torrenting usually use a non-standard port, you might only get that speed.

If you're going to run a testmy.net , make it a custom test and set the file size to the highest it goes.

dont need a bunch of lists, I've made a few of my own. You can block all (0 to 255) and allow only whats needed, its a lot of work (a lot lot lot) but over time its works out just fine.

It does make sense if your network bandwidth being throttled by type of traffic. Torrents are usually detected as P2P traffic since it is peer-transfer rather than server-transfer.

Did you use Testmy.net or try downloading Ubuntu via torrent as suggested above?

Did you contact your ISP and confirm if they're rate limiting or port blocking?

Did you try to enable only encrypted connections in your torrent client?
