Is there any way to
a) diagnose it
b) fix it

I have no idea what to do because ntoskrnl.exe error can mean anything (soft or hardware). It happens randomly but always when I'm away from keyboard, it never happens while I'm doing something.
Clean install and factory drivers didn't help, latest drivers didn't help either.

Prevent the laptop from sleeping/hibernating and see if that helps.
+1 to this if updating drivers and using factory ones hasn't solved the issue as the bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state. Though can sometimes also be caused by some a hence me asking.

@EarthDog yes I just tried that but still happens. It only happens when idle. Should I disable turn off screen too?

You can also download debugging tools for Windows that might be able to help you determine what's causing the problem. Is there a driver for the panel or is it windows generic monitor driver

@NdMk2o1o Could you be a little more specific? I've never done debugging

@EarthDog Event viewer just says that computer lost power (but of course it did, because it rebooted after bsod) but right before that there is no warning/error

Whocrashed didn't show anything so I tried minidumper (portable not really famous program) and it says this:

MiniDumper 1.8
Dump: MEMORY.dmp (24.05.2019 21:00:42)
Code: 0x9F - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
Process: System, probably caused by: memory_corruption
Third-party modules in the stack: nvlddmkm.sys
Third-party modules in the Raw Stack: Netwtw08.sys
DevStack: nvlddmkm.sys, ACPI.sys, pci.sys; third-party of them: nvlddmkm.sys
DeviceInst: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BE1&SUBSYS_10111043&REV_A1
ServiceName: nvlddmkm
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: MEMORY_CORRUPTION_LARGE

Does this info help?

I dunno, because Netwtw08.sys is intel wlan driver and nvlddmkm.sys is nvidia but I tried factory and latest drivers for both, same result

yup. video card driver - edit: but maybe not - upon some googling it seems like a widespread condition with this laptop and memory corruption bsods from a quick google search

Yeah I got exactly the same results from asus rog forums. Many threads with these bsod at random times (different models, from 2014 till this day) and nobody seemed to fix it and they all had brand new laptops. Some say it's related to intel rapid storage (really? how?) other say they reverted to older windows 10 builds. I really dunno what to do. Is it hardware or driver or windows ...

It seems G551 guys had it rough

I found this on microsoft

But honestly sometimes its caused by security updates or driver updates as well..might be a chance if you updated windows and you got this error ?? IF so ??

@Aqeel Shahzad I think that bsod isn't related to power state failure. And yes I stated in the op that it happens in clean/updated W10 1809 and 1903.

This article says that changing Power Plan to Balanced, Wireless Adapter Settings to Maximum Performance and PCI Express and Link State Power Management to Maximum power savings can solve DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Can I trust it or it's bs?

I provided you the link from microsoft as it should be legit and worth trying....

And second opinion was definitely on the basis of OS

If you are experience relative issues from these clean updates then yes might be an issue.

Since the release of Ms win10 it had been a bag of garbage BSOD all along.

Update your chipset drivers, if they are already the most recent...… re-install them, if there are also other chipset related drivers (PCI-E etc), update/re-install them, then re-boot and see if you still have the problem.

Worth a shot,
also do try to image your OS to external media and then update to latest 20H1 insider next version of windows, they are sometimes architectured differently and can be more stable.

Asus is fine, whichever is the most upto date between the Asus or Intel site.

@er557 and @Tatty_One

What I did:

power plan = balanced
pci-e lspm on battery and plugged in = Maximum power savings
installed intel chipset version 10.1.1.45
power mode = better performance
Updated Windows 10 to 18362.145 build

Is that ok? I hope it won't hurt performance and resolve bsod

Typically for power related issues you want to disable the power saving features not turn them up. So you would want PCI express link state power management set to off. The Intel Wifi card/driver might actually be causing the issues with the Nvidia stuff, you can try disabling power management on the wifi card. Really simple go into device manager find the Wifi card and right click, select properties. This will open a a new properties window for the wifi card, switch to the power management tab and un-check the box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Click okay and close device manager. I've been using that for wifi and nic driver issues since the Windows XP days. Windows has had ACPI issues forever. I'm not sure why Apple and pretty much all Linux distros can make their machines sleep and wake without having a single issue but Microsoft always has problems.

I get the same BSOD on my vanquisher rugged win 10 tablet. It's got a Broadcom 802.11ac WLAN chip. Been trying a lot to prevent it. I did have some luck disabling connected standby and then having the wlan adapter in max performance mode and turned off all WLAN power saving. I still get decent battery so no biggie. It still happens but nowhere near as frequent.
