Okay...Rewind a couple years. I had the same GPU (IIRC), A different PSU, Mobo, RAM, and I didnt have one of these HDDs that I now have. I dual screen'd this LCD monitor I still have and a crt of mine. Fast forward to now.
I have an 8800 gts. Same monitor. I cannot get dual screen working now....Now I've read that both types of monitors (lcd/crt) work together, which is good since that's the situation still....however I've read multiple things saying yay or nay for different connection outputs.
My CRT is just blue, aka VGA. It's being plugged into my monitor's only VGA.
My LCD is VGA with a DVI converter or w/e, and tis plugged into one of those white DVI slots (maybe It's in one of the wrong ones for dual screening? I dunno :/).
However, it's the same set up I had in the past, except maybe the CRT was converted n not the LCD but regardless, it worked. Now, I can't even get the option, in NVidia Options nor in Display Settings, to try and turn on clone mode. It also doesn't even register the CRT monitor, but upon unplugging it from the tower, it started saying it had no signal. I've read that maybe drivers are needed, maybe they aren't, this n that so I figured I'd pop in once more to my favorite tech site n ask for some help of things to run through or double check to make sure I'm not gettin mixed/misinformation, and to make sure I'm not bungling something up....Cause in the past, I just went to display settings n did monitor stuff there...however now It seems I must do it via NVidia's thing, and it's not even listing the OPTION for clone or anything else, let alone registering the 2ndary monitor (sorry for any short speak...tired as hell T_T)

Same GPU, but different card now? List the exact model for us please. It's possible you picked up a model with a DVI-D port. In other words, the adapter won't work with it.

If you have both monitors hooked up, it should work. I have two LCDs hooked up via DVI-to-VGA converters (like this - Link Depot DVI-AVGA-ADPT DVI To VGA Adapter - both of my monitors are hooked up using one of those).

You shouldn't have to go through Nvidia, but I have never done mult-monitors or XP just 7.

NVideo GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB is a tad ambiguous :)

Manufacturers put out several different models of cards based on the same GPU. While most of the 8800GTS's I've seen have two DVI-I (analog, digital) ports, it's possible that the DVI port on your card is DVI-D (digital only). I have a video card and a couple motherboards like this.

It's the first thought that came to mind seeing as how you have an 8800GTS with a VGA and DVI connector, not very common.

Yeah, maybe one is plugged into the wrong spot or something...Just wondering cause I've got a white n blue up top near my power/USB in the back, and 2 or 3 white slots for DVI type plugs near the bottom, the middle one of which my LCD is plugged into. Being that I don't own a second converter for my CRT, it's plugged into the blue one at the top :/...Maybe they're just plugged wrong, maybe I don't have a driver or something, just tryin to figure out what info I can try to look up for you guys or post or what parts of the back or whatever I can try to check to confirm what's going on...

Both of the monitors should be plugged into the 8800GT.

Okay, old post, but I kept slacking on it (plus I had no camera to show) but here's my set up, sort of, roughly, of what I believe are my spots for connecting monitors.

Now, sorry these aren't the best quality, but my room doesn't have light outside of one lamp that's semi blocked by bock cases n now a giant monitor I've been trying to get working for awhile :p.

The first image, if you can't tell, shows 2 white connector ports (Forget what they're called)
My 19 inch LCD is using an adapter to connect to it.

The second image shows another white port with what it's called above it, and then a blue one like what my two monitors are naturally, with an icon of what I would assume to be a monitor. However, when I try connecting my CRT to this blue one up top, it doesn't seem to register whether I restart, have nvidia 'register tv ports' or w/e it is, or anything. If need be, I'll see if I can go out n buy another adapter at micro center tomorrow if my mother is willing if that's what I must but :/

EDIT: I would like to mention that I was wrong. I dual screened before on a Radeon x700 iirc. I only get the 8800 gts in the past year or so I believe. It was after my Dual screen experience that worked because I remember that my GPU, CPU, and RAM really couldnt handle 2 monitors AND a game at the same time...

EDITl: I have now tried both monitors by themselves in the port that doesn't seem to work (At the top) and the port at the bottom that seems to work (the one on the bottom with the adapter). They both work solo via the adapter, but not via the top. My crt showed the screen image for 'no connection or not plugged in' or w/e iirc if either it wasn't connected at all or if it was connected to the adapter but not on, but if it was connected to the top, it has never shown it. My LCD is a Envision G918w1 and my CRT I'm trying to use as a secondary is a Dell E772c.

As far as I know your motherboard should recognize that you have a graphics card installed and make that the primary display device while at the same time disabling the onboard gpu. If you want dual monitors then you need to use the both ports on the video card(1 for each monitor), then use your Nvidia control panel to set up the second monitor.

BTW place the camera down on some books, set your camera for a two second or so delay, then take the picture. This will result in an image that isn't so blurry. If your camera has settings for increased exposure times then you can take some nice photos of still objects even in relatively dark places.

It's a DSI XL Camera, which means the camera is on the hinge, and even then it seems to be a lil angled. There's also no way to get light there easy as I have no overhead light.

The GPU isn't the problem, nor the mobo. Dunno why that would be an issue o_O.
The problem is, I've got one port down below I'm using, which is the one I've always used, but then I've got a Blue/White set of ports up top near other USB plugs and it doesn't get registered. But what leaves me stumped is that it's double white on the bottom, and white/blue on top, and I dunno which, if any, are mobo and which, if not all, ARE my GPU ports :/...

EDIT: As in, It's the DSi XL, and it's camera feature I mean :p

EDIT: Now, if what you're saying is right, and I understand this right, and some of these ports are from the onboard mobo GPU, and thus, disabled, it might explain why my monitor isn't getting recognized. The weird thing is, even when it's plugged in up top, it doesn't seem to think it's in a port, but I know both monitors work when attached to the adapter so....It just confuses me that my GPU could have 2 DVI or whites or w/e and no blue ports for me :<

EDIT: Also, really hard to place some books or things to make it level when there's wires ALL OVER the back of the desk where I was taking the pic from :p
