Dual or triple rad for q6600 cpu + x38 nb cooling?

I have a maximus extreme mobo!

my cpu is a q6600 and this mobo has an x38 chipset using a fusion block system ready for water cooling

I need to know which is the best rad to go! dual or triple?

for a triple rad i have to make a 120mm cutout for the 3rd fan on the top part of my storm sniper case but that is not a problem

I dont wanna waste money on a triple rad if a dual rad would be quite capable of cooling my q6600 + x38 chipset

I have a dual cooling my i7 so i would think a triple wouldn't be needed. depends on the fans and rad being used

Considering on how the NB also has the Mem controller which I know adds heat, I would suggest going with the triple rad, also I'd get the most powerful fans you feel comfortable using depending on noise, going cheap on fans will kill the performance more than Rad size.

@Dark wouldn't the Q66+X38 be about as hot as a i7? The i7 is a hotter chip then the Q but also the X38 would put out some heat...
The i7 also has the mem controller in the CPU and it has HT

What i'm trying to get at is wouldn't the Q66+X38 put out about the same amount of heat as a i7 maybe alittle less?

If you go with a 360 it will give you more headroom for upgrades later. If you get the 240 it should do fine with fans in push pull.

I have a P120.3 rad cooling the same boards NB/SB and VRegs along with a Q9550 @3.8 and the temps stay ~50C with full load.

So you may get away with just the double rad.

the tfc xchanger 360 will cost me 100euros and i have to make a 120mm cutout in my storm sniper case to for the 3rd fan on the rad

the sniper has holes only for 240mm rad but it easily accomodates a 360rad

I wonder why CM didn`t make it ready for 360 rad in the first place

No like I said you could get away with a double rad, I just used a triple as that was what I had.

A double with good fans should cool it nicely.

yea double rad would be fine as long as it is th feser of Thermalright. If its a lesser rad then a double just wont do.are you also going to use the feser spacer things?? I hear they keep a tad cooler because they eliminate the deadspot due to the fan motor

Dtek Fuzion are also nice for socket 775, but a little more expensive.

As far as rad, I would just get the triple. Once you start seriously water cooling, you tend to want to start adding more stuff to your loop. lol. Better safe than sorry.

I agree on both parts... The Dtek is a good block but someone already said that so i was just liking a cheaper option if the Dtek is out of budget

I myself am planing to upgrade to a triple and want to add my NB and Vregs to my loop also so i support the triple for more headroom/upgrades. But if the extra headroom isn't needed then a dual will be fine

I average about 75 C at sustained load from intel burn test or linx. Then again, I have RIDICULOUSLY high ambient temperatures.

I have a i7@3.8ghz@1.3v with a dual 120 rad with 4 fans in push pull they are ~80cfm all of them on 60% I top 58c under LinX

I just looked at my waterblock, and I don't think I seated it right. However, with my lack of cable management skills combined with my laziness, I don't want to fix it right now.

This fact combined with my ambient air temperature is probably why my temperature is disgustingly high.

Get a 360, they cost not much more and then your set for future additions to the loop.

Also means you can run the thing passively a lot easier : ]
