run a benchmark. You should see higher clock speeds when its one way(or the other) and a better result.

I think its an O/C switch not a BIOS switch

If you are talking about the BIOS Switch on the RX 480, there is usually a Quiet Mode and an OC Mode.
If you post your actual XFX card model number, the members over in the RX 480/470/460 Owners Club can help you as somebody probably owns the same exact card.

I have used the 24 pin adapter in the past. You plug it into the MB and the main PSU plugs into the top. It has another 24 pin off to the side and that goes to the GPU PSU. You will have a small delay before the second PSU gets a signal and turns on.

It's about functionality and not case bling.
